Where in Australia would you live if your job only required an internet connection?
Thinking of returning to Australia after many, many years, but I'm split between living in Sydney which is where all of my family is from, and trying something new now that my job is mainly done via the internet.
To be honest I haven't travelled much in Australia apart from Sydney and Canberra, so I don't have much to go on. But it's basically for me, my wife and kids, so nothing too remote or far away from civilisation.
I was thinking either Queensland or really taking the plunge and giving Darwin a try. Any thoughts?

Tassie maybe, if I could deal with the isolation from the mainland... otherwise, probably Toowoomba. Cooler climate in both places, and further away from the madding crowds.

How is Surfer's Paradise, pretty lively, lots of stuff to do? Any major drawbacks apart from that annual drunken kids' crusade where they all head up there to get completely hammered and make the nightly news?

Personally I wouldn't live in Surfers if you paid me - well, $500,000pa might just tip the scales. Plenty of much nicer places to live around the Gold Coast, and don't forget that the Gold Coast also covers the inland places that are in easy reach of the beach.

Surfers is a dump, LOADS of crime and very plastic and superficial. The Gold Coast hinterland is very nice. I would avoid any of the big cities.

For me - Eagle Bay is where I'd be hanging out.

It's a question I've considered, and as far as Tassie was concerned, I thought of somewhere outside of Launceston. Cheap land, not too rainy, and within easy reach of the airport for a quick hop across to Melbourne if the isolation gets too bad and you hanker after some culture.

I second Bundeena NSW, what a gorgeous place! Also Stanwell Park in NSW, right in the middle of the National Park, little cove beach, surrounded by massive trees. looks like heaven!
