Well it's wet, windy and dark. Statewide power outage since around 4pm.

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?
Haven't seen the nitty gritty of that, but that's a first as far as I'm concerned, how did that happen....I mean the whole state, where's the issue ?

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?
News is saying that the wind took out half a dozen distribution pylons, and the inter connector to Victoria tripped. Plus lightening strikes on some transformers.

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?
They have removed all of their base-load thermal power and now rely entirely on renewables and the interconnector - a disaster waiting to happen
By all means pursue a renewable energy policy but proceed with caution and ensure that there is sufficient backup and alternative resources - something that has not happened here
SA really is a basket case state that contributes little to Australia (apart from wine (and plenty of whining)) and is a drain on the rest of the country
Pathetic but you watch their idiot of a premier wriggle out of this one

It's pathetic - and an outcome of that state's socialist renewable energy policy

I've heard similar on the news today, but also used to drive near to Torrens Island regularly which is the largest natural gas fired power station in Australia (https://www.agl.com.au/about-agl/how...gy/agl-torrens).
Not the best source but Wikipedia has this list of SA Power stations - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...outh_Australia
Have heard that it was 23 pylons that went down with the wind though.

Any research to back up some of those comments Amazulu?

Must have been socialist built Pylons maybe, as the Liberal built Victorian Pylons stood up to the onslaught.

Fact:
SA has gotten rid of all of its coal-fired power stations and now relies entirely on unreliable renewables and an interconnector to the coal-fired resources in Victoria
Another reality:
One transmission line going down should not take out an entire state
I love how you are trying to somehow justify what happened as it doesn't fit in with what you want to believe, instead of asked questions of your government - who's energy supply policy is failing
SA truly is a basket-case - without Federal pork-barreling and ridiculously generous GST redistribution, it would be f**ked

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?
Bullshit
I've been involved in HV transmission and distribution for much of my working life - and in one of the wealthiest and most advanced countries in the world, one transmission line going down should not blackout as entire state
The engineering is wrong - the redundancy, back up and supply solutions are not there - and this is a failure of government policy. The rush to renewables has been too rushed - there's your socialism champ

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?
Despite current government policy, Victoria is not yet the basket-case that South Australia is
