Default What are you reading? The BE bookclub!!!

Havent had one of these threads for a while so thought id start one off.

at the moment i have several on the go -

- Post Mortem, Patricia Cornwell,
- The Bad Mother's handbook, kate Long
- Garden of Beasts, Jeffrey Deaver.

bought but never got past page 16 - The fatal shore, Robert Hughes. I know many on here recommended this book, but its quite intense and wasnt easy to get into.
Also just finished the DaVinci Code by Dan Brown.......an exciting start but turned crap half way through.

what else is everyone reading, and anyone have any recommendations/comments?

Well, I just finished the Da Vinci Code, which was a brilliant read.

Then, it got me thinking (I'm a history geek), its based on another book called 'Holy Blood, Holy Grail', so I'm reading that now.

Its all very interesting to me. A bit heretical, and I won't ruin the plot for those who haven't read either of them, but it sure as hell blows orthodox christianity to pieces.

I have just finished Memoirs of a Geisha, possibly the best book I have ever read. I loved it.

*Shantaram. In my all time top 10.
*For whom the bell tolls Hemingway

Currently reading Boy in the Bush by DE Lawrence.

lol.....I made the mistake of looking on the net, half way through it, to see how much of what he was talking about was true! I know it caused uproar when it first came out, and i hate not knowing whether im reading fact or fiction....I think Dan Brown mixed the 2 perfectly, but after reading what I did it kinda spoilt it for me
have you read angels and demons?

Hi Sue,

I'm about two-thirds through 'The Fatal Shore' and it's GREAT. You're right: it is intense, but it's brilliantly written. It's like surfing: a big effort to get out there, but the ride back in is awesome..!!

Cheers,
RT.

No, I haven't actually. I suppose I should, he is quite a readable author. At least his books have clever stories. He should just never claim they are based on fact.

I like Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but with everything going on in my life in the last 2 years I haven't read any. Which is GREAT!! I've got a backlog of their books to read through,

I also read that a while back and have since read it again. A very tenderly written tale, in which your feelings for the protagonist are heartfelt, all the way through. A good read.

cool

I think my problem with the fatal shore is that you have to concentrate on the subject and absorb what is being told, whereas with fiction you can just read it and switch off! (if that makes sense!)

i shall give it another go

I read the first couple of pages, and it seemed very much on a par with the davinci code, in that the characters seemed similar and the story seemed to sound like the davinci code! After that, couldnt be bothered to read on any further!

some of the first books i read were stephen king.....and i still have the well thumbed paperbacks from 20 odd years ago!!

Hi

I loved Angels & Demons, like you was totally engrossed with Da Vinci Code but half way it lost it for me, then picked up at the end. When I finished it, I wanted to dash over to Paris to invesigate LOL

They are currently filming it in Lincoln, Tom Hanks playing the blokey.

Just read the latest Harry Potter

currently reading the previous Harry Potter because I couldnt remember half of what had happened, it had been so long!!

Also finally got round to starting Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel but its got put on back burner due to HP.

Also still half way through The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield.

Recently completed The Empty Chair, and The Vanished Man (Jeffrey Deaver), just bought and read (in three days) Straken by Terry Brooks and now waiting for the next Wheel Of Time (Robert Jordan) to be published, although i'll probably have to re-read the last two or three books to remember whats gone on.
