Thanks for all the responses, we are planning on selling everything, we are not sure about our dogs as yet. I will definitely take on board the organization of it all. I have 2 kids one is only 7 weeks old, our plan is too move from Aug onwards. We are looking at the sponsorship for UK teachers, the only drawback is that you don't choose where you live, all you know is that it is WA. The govt takes care of all your needs tho, from housing to jobs. You live and teach there for max 3 years then you have residency. We are hoping to travel OZ in the school holidays and look for a place to put down roots. That is if we don't enjoy the original town. Is anyone on a sponsorship?

I did have my husband to help BUT be careful what you wish for...... we went on a last minute family holiday in June with grandparents, Aunts, cousins having not heard if we had been accepted to Oz but hoped to move out at the beginning of the following year to Sydney to be near Hubbies Nan (for her to see her grand-kids). On the way back from the airport found out hubby had been made redundant, company folded, owing him thousands in lost wages and holiday pay- our savings for Oz went on paying the mortgage and bills. 2 weeks later get the phone call that Nan in Oz had died. Day after got our Visa granted - not the jumping up and down we expected BUT it put a boot up our backsides and we were in Sydney 6 weeks later. Checked out Melbourne the next week as Nan wasn't there with ties to Sydney anymore - fell head over heels in love with Melbourne - with not having containers of stuff to wait for we were free to settle anywhere in Australia and buy furniture from wherever - and 3.5 years down the line haven't looked back.

Good luck to the OP and whatever you decide, everybody deals with things differently you can only do whats best for you at the time. But with a positive attitude things will work out it one way or other.

I totally agree with you in regards to a positive attitude. We are looking at this as a great adventure, the selling of furniture does not bother me, I cant wait to start a new life. I think we may ship over 3 box's, personal stuff. We have just got married, our daughter is 7 weeks old and my eldest daughter is 7 years old and Mike has just started teaching.
Not sure on the travel over yet, thats still in discussion.
We are going to oz on a sponsorship teachers visa, for 2 years and then qualify for permanent residence. For the first 2 years you are given a location and school in WA, you don't have a choice. Its more than likely to a in a rural town. Then you can move if you want. If it all comes together it will be an amazing chance for us, as we have a 2 -3 year stretch to look for a home. In the summer holidays.
I am sure one of the most difficult decision is to choose the right house not knowing any area's.
It is good to hear you don't look back.

Get organised... plan well... you can never do it too early.
How did you travel with the kids, we are in a discussion about ours. We have 2 daughters aged 7 weeks and 7 years. What are your kids ages and how did your travels go?

Well we've been coming back and forth to Aus for 15 years and 10 of those with children. My daughter was 3 weeks old when she first came. Since then, we've travelled with 3 yr old, 18 mo old, 6 yr old etc as they've grown.
I can't see either being a prob for you.

Would recommend a night flight... leave at 10pm and they're exhausted... drop off and sleep for ages. Means you guys get rest too. Your 7 yr old will love the inflight entertainment... and just bring a bag with little things in it, which you've bought on the sly, and keep popping them out every so often... little tubs play doh, new crayons, colouring books, little travel games etc.

And then really, they get to the point they've had enough of all that, no matter what you do... they're bored and tired... and that's when you're really tested as a parent... but hey, it's only a 22 hr flight these days and if you take a night flight, you'll be here in a flash.

Never had hassles from other passengers either... some give you a look of dread as you get on the plane and then when you're getting off, they always compliment you on your kids behaviour. I've been on a flight where a kid screamed constantly but he and his parents received nothing but sympathy from the passengers.... so people are very forgiving I have found.

I'm sure given the ages, your flight will be a breeze. Or as much as a 22 hr flight can be a breeze.

Woah! are you serious?, you could end up in Canarvon or Meekatharra or any one of hundreds of outback dumps - for three years!

Look, if your are single and a bit adventurous then you could tough it out. You will be in for a huge "learning experience". Personally I wouldn't wish it upon anyone, apart from my worst enemy. I've lived in some of these towns. It's a different world.

All I can say is the very best of luck and I REALLY hope you know what you are letting yourself in for.

you are scaring me!! We are at the beginning of the process, first week. We are looking for an adventure, but not one that is too scary. Port Hedland,is one place that has been mentioned, do you know it?
Our contact has mentioned that it's not rural england, we are trying to get our heads around it all.
