What to take?

Does anyone have any advice on what household stuff to ship out, is it worth paying to ship out electrical goods like dishwasher fridge-freezer or are we better off buying in Oz once we have settled?

You will get both answers to this.
Yes, Take everything.
and
No, start afresh with all new.
In reality it does come down to your plans, and what you have.
If you are already planning a container, then put as much as you can into it, including the fridge freezer all the way down to the potato peeler..
But.... work out the cost of the container versus the replacement cost of the goods going into it, no point spending more in shipping than the goods are worth.

I would take everything. We paid 3400 pounds for all of our worldly possessions to be shipped and there's no way we would have been able to replace it all for a similar amount of money so in our case it was definitely worth it.

We did the opposite to the above and brought next to nothing. It was handy in that as soon as we secured a rental we could go and buy what we needed rather than making do with air beds and eskys until my shipment came, lol.
In hindsight if i had my time again i guess i would bring my fridge freezer (most households have 2 out here anyway) and my dryer (for the winter months).
I think it also depends on how good your furniture and white goods are, if they are near new it could be well worth bringing them ,if they were like mine and had been ''child attacked'' for 5 years ,you may want to sell your stuff off on Ebay and have a fresh start.

We have had just over half a container shipped. Took sofa, book case, coffee table and dining suite, wash machine, beds, lots of nice pictures and ornaments. Anything bulky and more costly than buying new got sold / given away. Also took kitchen appliances and linens and even lovely bathroom set after scrubbed to death in milton. Crammed in cushions - if your wife is anything like me and you really dont know how much she paid for all those 'it cost hardly anything' knicknaks' - take them
Make a list and tote up costs. If like us you have dropped your house price and now have a bit of a 'gulp' moment cos of exchange rates etc consider shipping. How much is it really going to cost you to replace all those belongings?
It seems daunting but you will make your mind up and both options have pros and cons. Good luck! ( do a search on here re shipping - we paid 2,500 and couldn't have bought all our things for that).

I would defo say bring everything you can with you. What you have to realise is that most properties here are a hell of a lot bigger than most properties in UK.
