its a zombie spider, they are famous for pretending to be dead. They lay eggs in stagnant water and particularly like water with high chemical or salt content. The eggs hatch after a hormone released by the mother when she is removed from the immediate proximity of the eggs she laid.

good luck.

You obviously dont know your arachnids, the zombie spider doesnt swim backstroke, it floats on the water using surface tension. It has tendrils that drop below and break the tension enough to insert the eggs through the membrane so that its children can benefit from the chemical nutrients or salt in the water.

Its a Wolf spider, they tend to end up in pools, as they are night stalkers, who chase their prey rather than make a web.................mm

I agree - looks like a wolf spider to me - the two eyes on top of the head, two big eyes in front and then four little ones are the give away. Wolf spiders carry their young on their backs - makes them look like they've had a bad perm. They are not aggressive really and the bite wont kill you so I'd leave well alone - having them around might keep other nasty spiders away.

eek now that looks nasty.

Mental note dont tell the kids or me that spiders dont drown need to remove that memory from my brain.

These zombie spiders do the eggs hatch in the pool water? Not a fan of spiders myself
