What Shops Are You Missing????
Don't get me wrong, I'm not crying over it, and I'm totally in love with my new life...it's everything I wanted and I feel very privileged (sp?!), but every now and then, I think, "ooohhh would love to pop into a NEXT and see what they've got." Made the mistake of looking at their website..... :( I could get my Mum to purchase and send, but I haven't got the kinda figure that I can chuck anything on and get away with it, so there could be some too-ing and fro-ing in the mail...weeks of hassle.
My only other thing is Boots' 'The Sanctuary' body souffle (it even sounds lovely!) moisturiser. I shipped 3 tubs over, but I've almost finished my 2nd :( :( . It's just such a heavy tub, I feel I can't ask anyone to bring it over. Mr Logan/Barina Boy, brought some Fortnum and Mason marmalade over (apparantly it's the best, ..don't know I don't eat it), and he's almost run out. :scared: |
Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
can you not get it sent from a boots nearby, say thailand (website)?
just a thought a,l  |
Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
I think it would be easier to ask what shops I am not missing...HMV because they have it here :p

Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
Hi
Can't you find any alternatives in Brisbane  We're in Cairns and are lost for choice at our local stores/malls compared to where we lived in the UK! Initially there were a few things we all missed - obviously - but soon found good alternatives - just a bit of trial and error ;) Its sometimes fun trying different brands anyway. I used to get all my make up / perfumes via mail order in the UK thru a French company called YVES ROCHER, really miss their fantastic day moisturising creams and perfumes but hey - they where expensive and if I go expensive over here - can get just as good ! As for fashion - if Cairns caters for every age group/style surely Brisbane does  Went to the Gold Coast recently and the choice was immense! (had to keep my purse firmly SHUT) :D Try new things - am sure you will find a good replacement product for your 'body souffle' :) Glad you are enjoying your NEW LIFE - as are we! Take care |

Yeh, we have Myers not sure about DJs? Asked a couple of local 'chemists' recently, but no luck - so have just begun trying other 'brands' for easyness. Cheers - let me know if your Myers does it and I will check ours tomorrow :) Hope your brother and SIL are having a good time up here - bit misty today though - shame! Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
Love it here but miss Next, I know what size I take and it always fits well, washes well and I can get away with wearing it the year after!
Also miss Adams for the kids, Topshop, Asda, Tescos :o I'm beginning to think it's more a familiarity thing than stuff not being available here, I guess I am just lazy and don't like going into Perth if I can help it. |

Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
As well as missing Boots and Primark (I Know but the T-shirts were a bargain and last for years!) I am only 5ft 2" and I have not found another petite section like that in Next. And pleeeeeaaase don't tell me about Myers whose petite section is great if you 50+ (sorry if I offend here)...I also find that a lot of quality is just not the same as Next....Roll on November for a trip to the UK to the nearest Next!!!woohoo

They said they would stay in Cairns about a week (they are doing an 8 week tour of Nth Qld - hard life being retired isn't it! ;) ) . DJs = David Jones, large upmarket dept store like Myers, my guess is that you probably havent got one up there. If I find any in DJs I could always post it up to you :) . |

Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
i checked out marks and spencers food hall when i was back in the uk in may. i never really ever shopped there because it's too expensive, but the range looked even better than when i left 4.5 years ago.
and as for next.... my aussie girlfriend went into next on oxford st while i jumped into borders in search of some good books. she came and found me not too long after complaining about how bad the clothes were!!! |
Re: What Shops Are You Missing????

I haven't found myself as yet missing any UK shops. That could change though. I just love shopping in the big shopping malls. There was nothing to compare to them in N.Ireland (shopping centres very small), so I guess shopping is still a big novelty. Katie |
Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
Next....along with everyone else it seems. Gap, best jeans around. Sainsburys for the range of foods. Any Pub with Marstons Pedigree.

Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
I totally miss Next too - especially for my little un's clothes. I used to buy alot of his clothes there and not found anywhere that compares to that yet for quality and price. Next clothes just wash and wash and wash and still look fab!!!
I also miss H&M, New Look & Primark - all for their great cheap & chearful stuff, and River Island (God I love that shop), Morgan, Ravel shoes & Monsoon for not so cheapy stuff. But although I miss these shops alot, I still wouldn't trade my life here - I love it!!!!!!!!!! :D |
Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
I miss Sainsburys.....for the huge selection of ready meals....yea I'm a lazy bugger :D But there was nothing nicer on a Friday night than grabbing my fav chicken tikka biryani out of the fridge.....lobbing it in the microwave and 4mins later tadaaaaaaaaa......scrummy!!!!
I haven't been here long enough yet to miss anything else.... :D |

I used 'sanctuary' stuff most of the time untill i discovered virgin vie.you'll love it and it is international, Lynn |

and Sainsburys, Boots (Natural collection), W H Smith, Waterstones, M&S (underwear). Also miss decent toy shops - Gamleys in Brighton was superb. And after the experiences of the last three weeks, I can honestly say Brighton & Hove Bus Co are wonderful, with their clean new buses, smooth driving, and generally cheerful drivers :) |

Re: What Shops Are You Missing????
After my day today....anyway UK supermarket, I only want cocktail cherries for our party and none to be found!!!
miss (and always knew I would as have been away before) M&S Next Boots John Lewis (ok David Jones sort of makes up for it but the one in Perth isn't as good as the other's in Australia) although have found a way round getting clothes, order from website and get Mum to send it out, only downside is I can't feel the quality browsing on the website :( Its just they haven't got any clue on how to layout merchandise here, it all looks like a massive jumble sale :D |

But if you have second thoughts, try returning the one you paid for and keeping the free one. “You can’t have something that’s a bit free, ACCC spokeswoman Jennifer McNeill says. “It is or it isn’t. |
