I usually take my valuables with me.

Laptop and SLR camera's and photo memory cards go in my hand luggage. Any valuable jewellery also as they aren't insured in a container.

I am doing a 6 week trip and will be taking a small bag of work/interview clothes and shoes as well as travelling stuff since I hope to get a job before my shipped stuff arrives. As someone mentioned take your important papers - statements of bank accounts, ID's, insurance documents, kids reports, your references.

I will probably take a few DVD's for entertainment whilst on holiday - nothing worse that feeling obligated to watch crap TV - I watch it on my laptop!

My ipod....first aid kit and tolietries for 6 weeks, ,make sure you have enough contraception, contact lens stuff if needed (and if you will be in strange places like me).

You'd be suprised what you can bring in, AS LONG as it's declared!!!!

I accidently didn't declare this lot ... :o ... and was pulled to one side at Brisbane airport for a field day ... :lol:

I said to the lady that I knew it was all ok as it was sealed (what I thought it HAD to be) and she said certain things can come in even if out of a wrapper!
