Question What are meals like in schools?

We're (fingers crossed) going to be moving over to Brisbane by next August but I was wondering, with all teh Jamie Oliver stuff here going on, if anyone knows what the school dinners are like? Do they serve up the same crap as we get here or are they relatively healthy??

You bring your own and swap the boring stuff your mum gives you with the exotic stuff the kids from more interesting countries bring.

At our kids school they either take their 'eskys' filled with whatever you give them or they can have tuck shop. That consists of either:

Monday: Spag Bol or lasagne,
Tuesday: Butter chicken and rice,
Wednesday: 2 sushi rolls, ginger pickle and sauce,
Thursday: Chicken fajitas
Friday: Sweet and sour chicken and noondles

PLUS:

Choice of drink; milk, juice or water

AND:

Piece of fruit, fruit yogurt or cheese and biscuits.

Cost: $5 per day.

Presume it would change from school to school.

Our school's canteen is entirely run by parents on a voluntry rosta (no cost in hiring staff). It sells salads, sandwich's (wholemeal bread unless you request white roll) pizza, spaghetti jaffles (do you know what they are I had no idea until I moved here!)dim sums, noodles, burgers. Ice cream, icypoles, home made choc muffins, lollies (sweets)and pop corn (plain).

In the Good Old Days, to support the dairy industry, there was Free School Milk. Delivered in 1/3 pint bottles and left in crates in the sun. It put many kids off milk for life.
