What to do Now?

Well, i've just had the most terrible news. The Hospital that i am due to start work with as a registered Nurse in theatres has financial problems so no job!! ( the holy spirit in Brisbane)I have a 457 visa for this employment and was about to book flights. Now what do i do? Any advice would be great. :D

Am assuming this is a private hospital?
Can you try approaching some of the public hospitals?
So sorry, what a terrible position to be in.
Perhaps the immigration forum may be a better place for your enquiry also as you may get some advice from migration agents.
Good luck:fingerscrossed:

In my personal experience in Australia people always need to keep looking for work....its due to the system and limied competition there

This may be the case in some professions but not usually in nursing.

My advice is apply for Permanent Residency, I think the govt. may have put a temporary freeze on apps for a few months but this country will always want nurses. With a PR you can work for whoever you like, wherever you like and your employer won't have you over a barrel like they do if you are on a 457.

Yes, I find it a bit strange that so many people who could easily get PR choose to come out on 457s instead.

The reason people such as myself go for 457 instead of directly to PR is time. A 457 can be obtained in about a month from start to finish. So if you are offered a job, by the time you have worked your notice period you are entitled to come to Oz
