Default What to do with my cat?

hi, just hoping that you guys could give me some ideas. Our family could be emigrating in a few weeks, or a little bit longer (depends on work) i have a cat that i need to find a home for. i have advertised in local papers, and had adverts in local shop, i have even got my local animal charity on the case but nothing is happening. he is a lovely cat, about ten years old and would make someone a lovely pet. i am getting scared now as i may be running out of time. i thought that i would have the rspca to fall back on but have been told they have waiting list so i am going to call they today to see what they say, any other ideas would be great.

I take it bringing him with you isn't an option?

Do you have a local pet store you could put a picture in. Also some vets will let you advertise. I put a picture, description and tear-off tabs with my phone number on in the local pet store and rehomed two cats of similar age to yours within 3 days.

Or is there a local old-folks residential home who might like to take him. Pets are good for the old folk!

Good luck!

Vets usually know people wanting pets or will let you put a notice up. Failing that, one of the vet nurses may take him.

It broke my heart leaving my baby, but she was 14 and not in the greatest health. I had no idea what accommodation we would find here, and my gut feeling was she wouldn't survive the journey. I'm still convinced of that. I'm so glad we left her, the lady who bought our house wanted her so she continued to live in her home. Went for a visit in July and we all cried when we saw her - 17 now, very elderly, but very loved and happy. She would have hated living here.

Hope you find him a lovely home before you leave.

How lovely ... that sounds like the perfect solution.
I am really worried about my 2 cats, both 16.
They have lived in the same house all their lives. One is not too healthy after a dog attack couple of years ago and the other is so timid I really don,t think she would settle in a strange environment.
I am finding that people are not keen to take cats of that age and I can't bear the thought of them in a cat home as they are outdoors whenever they want.

We had a similar problem, but fortunately the new owners of the house agreed to take her on... still miss her.. still keep thinking that I see her and then double take and realise that she's not here...

Ah well.. apparently my friend (who lives 2 doors up from my old house) says she sees her in our old street and gives her a pat from us all.. and apparently she is fatter than ever and still plodding around!

Can't have a pet in our rental, but when we are able I plan to have atleast 2 cats.. I love 'em!

Em x

PS Gawd, just realised that I have totally gone off on some drivel and not given any helpful advice in the slightest!

I really recommend the old peoples home idea. Many years ago we moved to SE asia and couldn't take our cat with us. We left her at our local home and she loved it. The old dears used to take it in turns for her to sleep on their beds
They sent us photos and letters telling us about her which was so nice. When we came back a few years later they had grown too attached to her to give her back so she stayed there. I went to see her once but I just blubbed constantly so everyone told me not to go back again.

Hope it works out for you

Try your local Cats Protection League if private advertising isn't working, isn't there any family that would give him a home or a neighbour. Personally I'd stay well clear of RSPCA too many animals, to few homes not a rosey outlook with them.

We are in a similar position. two cats, (17ish, and 11) we had organised a home more then a year ago. reconfirmed it a month ago then out of the blue last fri she had changed her mind. I've cried alot since.

We are taking dog she flies wed. the vet said we could take the cats but not in time, we are leaving in two weeks. He also said the eldest might find it traumatic. they are both so beautiful I do not know what to do. My friend has offered but I'm worried about her road. it's a bit busy and Begby the male seal point thinks cars will drive around him.

I tried the margaret green foundation but they are full.

so my heart goes out to anyone in the same situation.

just an update on my cat situation. i phoned my mother in law up to ask her to make inquiries where she lives. she phoned back 5 mins later to say that an uncle had just been to cats protection for a cat, but didnt find anything he liked. so i sent him photos of charlie and he is going to his new home tomorrow. its a little to soon for my liking but to be honest i dont think i would like him to go anytime. its unfortunate he cant come with us, but its just not an option. Thanks again for your help

I am so pleased that Charlie has a new home. It must be a huge weight off your mind, albeit a sad time too. I am sure Charlie will love his new home and settle in very quickly.

I'm really pleased it's worked out for you. Our cat went to live with our neighbours across the road - I'm not even a cat lover but I cried buckets when I had to hand her over!
