You can open a bank account from here before you go then when you arrive go in with your passports to activate it. After that I'd say a Tax file number so that you don't get bumped huge amounts of tax when you start working and you also need to register for medicare. After that house & work and whatever you can do to suit your circumstances.

We are lucky as we are staying with family initially so will find work and then look for somewhere to live.

Get your CV out there to different agencies etc and let them know when you will be arriving. Chances are they won't put you forward for any positions before you arrive but apply anyway. It lets them see the type of position you are after. I have been doing this and had some really good feedback and all wanting me to get in touch once I'm there. This also lets you ask if they can recommend any changes to your CV to make it more suitable for the Australian market.

Hope this helps

Fiona
