What did you forget to do?
If you tell me, I can make sure I don't!

Pack DD's birth certificate in the hand luggage; it got sent in the sea freight. Despite us having a scanned copy of the original and despite her holding an Australian passport, Medicare refused to register her or add her to our card until her birth certificate arrived. Complete and utter PITA.

That's a useful one - I was planning to scan important docs, but better keep those originals handy.

keep the tickets/passports etc in a safe place out of the way of the packers.
It has been known for said items to be packed and happily on their way to Oz by accident

Funnily enough that's one thing I do have. For months whenever I've sold anything or found cash lying round the house I've converted to Aussie dollars. Must just remember to TAKE it!

1. settled your tax for year 2010 and inform inland revenue of your move?
2. write up a will?
3. set up power of attorney? You need a close relative to be your power of attorney just in case they need to sign something for you while not in the UK.
4. Disconnect all your services?
5. Re-direct your mail?
6. Get all the required certificates (birth, marriage etc)
7. Settled your insurances?
8. Opened bank accounts in OZ from UK? If HSCB, the Advance account is very handy. They have Me to Me service where you can connect 2 accounts in different countries. I have also opened an account with NAB
Cheers

I forgot to collect my winter coat and a dress from the dry cleaners! I found the ticket in a pocket about three months after we'd arrived. I wasn't too bothered though, didn't think I would need the winter coat and I always thought that dress made me look fat anyway...... I wonder what happens to the stuff that people don't collect from the cleaners?

Hi there
Not so much forgot but worth bring are lots of UK extension leads if you are bring electrical items with you. All you do when you get here is pop along to Bunnings and get some Aussie plugs and change them on the extension lead. We are in a relatively new house and there is a lack of power sockets, so we are glad we brought them with us
