What could go wrong ???

Hi all

Just wondered if anybody had any ideas as to what could actually go wrong with a DIMIA application once sent?

My hubby thinks I am being too over confident about getting our Visa, am I?

Is there anybody on here who has been refused, or do you know of anyone?

We don't have criminal records and our health is good, we are just waiting for requests on those.

Any comments appreciated, thanks in advance

Depends how you have accumulated the points that you require. If your applying for a 136 skilled ind visa and your claiming bonus points for working in an occupation that is closely related to the occupation stated on the visa application, it's possible that the DIMIA may disagree and not award the additional bonus points.

They may also take a look at your passport photo and decide that your to ugly to be allowed to live in Oz!!!!!!

In all honesty your probably be fine. I imagine most of us had the same worries as your husband during the application process. I know that I did, I didn't want everyone to get there hopes up to high only to be told no.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. We are applying on a 136 skilled visa but he is the right occupation.
Also we're not that ugly....so should be okay.

Thanks, Theresa

Re: What could go wrong ???

something unexpected happened to us - i too considered myself to be in good health but my chest x-ray showed up a small calcified scar which apparently can be caused by TB - this came as a complete shock to me as i'd had no major or even minor health issues. because it looked quite an old scar my visa was granted but i was to be monitored further upon entry (known as a health undertaking). we were planning to move in march of this year but when you sign a health undertaking instead of having 12 months to validate your visa you only have six which meant we had to bring every thing forward by a full six months, a bit like having a fire cracker lit at your feet especially if you have a house to sell, fortunately we managed it and moved here in october. i had my first check up at the chest clinic within a few weeks of arriving and will have another later this year.

Re: What could go wrong ???

I do hope that everything goes alright for you, don't want to piss on your fire but you can never really know what is around the corner. Like DI i thought that i was fairly healthy, i box 3 times a week, play football so it came as a right shock that after we had our meds to be told that i had a heart problem. After finding this out i paid privately to see a heart specialist who told me that one of my ventricals in my heart was slightly slower than it should be. Our meds were sent off to oz with a B clerance. A few weeks later on the day i was going for another test a letter arrived from oz asking for more information, i went for my test ( had radiation injected into me and then they watched it go around my heart under a scanner ) then got the result that my heart was acutally ok. So the specialist then did me a letter saying this and sent it to the panel doctors who then sent it to oz and a week later we were given our visas with a A clerance. So even though we have got in it could have been so different. You just never know, lots of people get in with know problem and i hope your one of them . Good luck Darren

Dear Hooperhome
Ugliness is down to the individual, if your case officer thinks you are ugly you will not get your visa. This is DIMIA's policy (have a look on their website). Apparently a few years ago they let any old moose into OZ, this then started a breading epidemic that created legions of ugly families. Take a look around when you go over and you will see. They tend to keep them away from the general population often making them live in the outback at places like Kalgoorlie.
Why don't you attach a picture of yourself to this post and we can vote on your ugliness?
:D :D :D :D

There's too many things that can go wrong!!!
Don't worry at this stage. If you get the visa...then start to panic about leaving the familiar shores of home and starting a new life downunder....getting a job....finding a home ...the homesickness....missing friends and family....having to cope with Aussie drivers...poor wages...stamp duty on everything...speed cameras
Only joking............ :D

These people are mean :D

But in reality you are in limbo. We've all gone through it, As far as you are aware everything is fine, but you have to await the DIMIA.

Its a painful time, but as they say on the website, don't do anything irreversible until you get the visa.

It does sound like you're ok, but..... wait, and wait and wait :o

It IS worth it in the end,

Cheers,
JTL

A good way to change your life is to get a face lift, still waiting for your picture to be posted on here. If you post it as a poll we can all have an input

Waiting patiently..........

Hi Folks,

we did our police clearance and meds etc. and sent them all off. The doctor rang me to say everything was clear with bloods xrays etc and all was ok with him, with this in mind, is it likely that we will get our visas or could they still refuse. Going for the 136 skilled, with points and work experience in the field etc. and the waiting is killing me!!

how long after they receive all above should we have to wait, they had to be received at their offices by 24th Feb

Thanks
Gill

Hi Theresa,

Did they send you a request for your meds or are you just getting them done now just in case? I am probably jumping the gun and will have to wait another two months!

Hello Gill

No, meds have not been requested. Our agent said that they would probably be requested about 2 months after the application went in. Therefore I have timed it so that they are ready 2 months after application was sent. We are on the MODL list so trying to be as prepared as possible as far ahead as possible. Also....just plain eager, can't wait!!!

Have you gone ahead and done these unrequested, what was 24th February, was that the application going in or meds and police checks ?

Hi Theresa,

Oh, I know what you mean, the waiting is awful and your right to have everything in place and ready. It is just frustrating, my agent, like many of them has a policy that she doesn't chase them up which I can understand because from reading through some of the threads, they don't appear to like it, the time limit on the med request seems right, we lodged the visa late october and they requested them early Jan and they wanted them back by the 24th of Feb, hope you hear soon, keep me posted

Hello Gill

I didn't realise that when meds were requested that they actually wanted them by a certain date. I'm glad we've got all that organised in advance then!

So you should hear quite soon then?

They don't want them by a certain date, just a soon as you can. Some of the panel doctors seem to have waiting lists that are quite long so probably best to book ahead

Oh, fingers crossed, I have seen over the last couple of days where people sent med back in feb and got granted the visa in march, I doubt we would be that lucky and I am not sure if applications from the UK are processed quicker, we are applying from Ireland.

The reason we did not sent the meds with the applic was because you have a year to validate from the date of the meds or police clearance whichever is first, so by waiting we are able to save a bit more. We have just agreed a sale on our house. Did not want to sell so soon but we got an offer we could not refuse and would probably not again if we delayed it, just hope to God they don't refuse the visa, when are you hoping to go and where?

Hi Kevin,

I saw the letter they sent to the agent requesting the meds etc and they did state that they had to be returned to their offices by 24th of February 2005. I too was surprised but got them done anyway, the waiting time for meds isn't as bad in Ireland from what I gather, the main waiting time is for the bloods to come back, they take two weeks! (all we seem to do is wait, are you already in Oz?)

OK, sorry about that then, I know we sent off our visa app along with police checks, we are now waiting for med requests. Our agent hasn't mentioned timescales for meds though

our visa applic went in late october 04 and they sent the letter requesting meds and police clearance in January. They wanted everything to be back with them by the 24th of February 05! We sent the irish and australian police clearance to the agent along with the "Change of Details" for (thats not the official name for it) confirming that no details had changed since the application was lodged and she was send all that back with the original letter by DHL and the doctor sent the meds and xray results from his office.

as far as I know Kevin, you have a year to validate your visa from the date of the Meds or Police clearance, whichever is first, we just wanted to allow as much time as poss. I am just hoping that the fact that they even request the meds is a good sign!

We are hoping to go about November time, all depending on sale of house and sale of business.

I think (hope) we shall be lucky with the house, we are in a good location, the house is very up-together now after 7 years work and huge extension. You know, you just finish it all and then you up sticks and move to the other side of the world.

We intend to move to Perth.

That is exactly the same with my house, we would be working on it most weekends etc. and then we go and sell it but all your hard work will be worth it when sale time comes, are you shipping all your belongings, we are heading to Melbourne(hopefully, you know how it is, you hate to say you are definitely going until you hear from THEM!!!!)
