Default What cars did you buy?

I'm going to have to buy two cars soon after we arrive. A little "phut phut" and a family car. I've never gone mad on cars in the UK, we're selling/sold a Fiat Multipla diesel and a citroen Xsara diesel- both were bought used.

I'm going dizzy trying to decide on what to get when we get there. I understand that used are so expensive many opt for a new one with a decent 5 year warranty. What did you decide on?

We'll be going to SE queensland/gold coast.

VW Golf and Nissan Navara 4x4 ute. Both are diesel. I also bought new as nearly new/few years old are way overpriced.

We got a Ford Fairmont, paid $3000 for it in September and have never had any problems with it. I did back and forth to the Gold Coast from Jimboomba daily (180kms per day) for 4 months and it never let me down. It is a nice spacious family car. We are now looking at getting a toyota ute for heavy duty's.

I bought a brand new Holden Barina for $13,000. It was an end of year clearance so got it cheap. Very good on petrol, easy to park and they are very popular over here so I don't see a problem later down the line getting parts for it should I need to have repairs done.
We also bought a 1995 Falcon when we first arrived for $3000. Hub has driven it every day for 7 months and it runs like a charm. It's for sale now as he will be moving to Perth next week and they're giving him a car when he gets there.
Anyone want to buy a '95 Falcon?

Got a good deal on a 7 month old Toyota Corrolla estate (they call them wagons). 1.8L with 18,000Km.

Think we'll need to buy another cheaper runaround when we both start work soon

I'll have it if you live in cairns (we'll be there in 3 weeks). Your location "under the southern cross" is a little vague !
We're looking at a falcon or commodore for now when we arrive. (as well as my Y2K Suzuki GSXR750 ! )

My Parents have a Mazda Tribute and a new fiesta, they did have a KA but my mum felt it was too small compared to the size of the trucks over there! Although a fiesta isn't much bigger!

Has anyone bought a hybrid? We are still debating whether we will need a car at all and also looking into car-share options, but if we do get one I would like to get something that's a little kinder on the environment if I can. I haven't started researching what's available in that field over there yet though...
