New Zealand 711

errr but surely that means that once these obese populations reach prime heart attack age those figures are likely to swing in favour of those most obese nations?

Well sure...if it was true...but according to WHO there are quite a few nations fatter than Australia and the UK is only one bacon butty behind us.

Oh, hang on a sec... the rotary washing line. Can't think of any others.

Well the next big thing will be drive-thru pizza, this will be hitting USA over the next couple of years, then probably find its way back here. After being designed, developed and manufactured here in OZ.

Wine cask/ bag - Yes well done

Refrigerator - One particular type of many

But probably did invent extreme arrogance in sport

yes, it's a bit like saying Britain invented Cadbury's. So what? Doesn't mean they invented chocolate!

In Canada almost all the main petrol stations you could swipe your card at the pump.

Most don't have them because they want you to have to go inside and be tempted to buy a $4 choc bar and $5 bottle of water.

Not according to 'The Age'

Australia Now Worlds Fattest Nation: Australia has become the fattest nation in the world, with more than 9 million adults now rated as obese or overweight, according to an alarming new report.

Well the age article is from June 2008 so it is more recent than the forbes article. Google 'worlds fattest nation' and Australia is the one with the most hits. Couldn't find any recent figures from the WHO which I would have assumed would have 2008 stats.

Did you notice the percentages? We didn't go from 67.4% to 94.6% in 1 year I hope.

I have read the 'Fat Bomb' report The Age article quotes. It is about Australians from 45-64. There is no mention of the overall population percentage, being fatter than americans, fatter than every country in the world or anything like that - you can read yourself if you are as bored as me :http://www.bakeridi.edu.au/Assets/Fi...omb_report.pdf

Seems like a media beat up to get the story noticed. I'm going for a jog.

A few selected countries from WHO 2010 figures (they must extrapolate). Females, 15-100, BMI >= 25Kg/m2:

Nauru
93.0
Micronesia, Federated States of
91.1
Cook Islands
90.3
United States
76.7
Australia
66.5
United Kingdom
63.8
Ireland
43.9

Yes, I noticed that. They all moved to Australia!

I have to say it is quite noticeable though. When I returned to the UK in 2003 the Aussie women were fit. On Returning to Oz this year, the difference was unbelievable. I've never seen so many fatties!

I'm off for a jog too.

Drive through funeral home

That's nothing - along with the drive through wedding chapels, I saw a drive through funeral home in Las Vegas when I was there in the early 90's - wonder how long it will take to get to the UK or Oz?!?

Here's an example in Chicago:
