While this is good advise, I fail to understand how do you that practically. No good school in Melbourne gives your child admmission without having 12 month lease in hand. I have written to so many school and they are very inflexible about this, unfortunately.

This is not true.

I know people who have got their kids into schools near us without even being in Australia!

'Good' schools do this I think the person claimed. Some schools will be hard to get into, other won't.

Yes, oversubscribed "GOOD" schools won't let you in unless you show up with the relevant paperwork (bills, bank statements, etc) ie that you live in the catchment area and have been for a while. Those in my area are very anal about their catchment areas, so it completely depends on yr suburb. Also a lot of "GOOD" Catholic schools won't enrol your child if there is no baptism record & some will also go to the extend of parish boundaries too.
