Also when the resource boom cycle goes into bust(which has happened several times) it is the eastern states that keep the national economy rolling.
WA is ignoring all the money that poured into them through eastern investment.

The main problem with UK and Irish tradies is that most of them are only in the house building game - brickies, tilers, domestic sparkies, plumbers etc, and these are the last type of tradie that WA needs.
Specialised welders, diesel and hydraulics technicians, controls sparkies etc would have no problem finding work in WA or Qld

As I was saying just how many of the necessary trades required will most of the 'borrowed' Irish tradies have? But don't allow facts to get in the way when the government decides on a course of action it wants to undertake.
Doubtful if it will remain there either. Can expect a lot of folk from far nearer countries wanting to be the actual workers likely desired.
When the work declines as in time it will the competition for jobs could well be intense.
More PHDs driving cabs?

It's fact.So many countries have an over 'educated' work force. I guess it's to a degree the result of down playing the importance of trades and the like and over playing the necessity of a university education for the majority.

Pretty much. They'll come on 457s for as long as they're needed then go home at the end of their time unless they can find PR sponsors or qualify for PR on their own. Just like any other 457 applicant.

One upside of such an influx is it will be cheaper to get new tarmac on your driveway....

WA Mining jobs,mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Had a press release on $125,000.00 truck drivers on a 50 hour week. And the usual "Can't get anyone to do the job-lazy Aussies etc".
I was more than qualified and got offered $25.00p/hr flat to operate Triple Road Trains of Explosives.
When queried on the anomoly of remuneration offered I was told"The Newspaper got the facts wrong"
Thats why they are still advertising every week in Australia,New Zealand and The Philippines.
Karratha rental starts at $1,000.00 per week.

For the big part a con job mate. Sad thing is a lot of folk will do that work for far less and accept shall we say more basic sleeping facilities.
I would not count on too many truths coming from Corporate Australia and less from who they employ in management.

Re: Western Australia seeks to 'borrow' Irish workers
It did during the resources boom of the late 1800s. Cardiff was the busiest port in the world. Bute was the richest man in the world. When they say there is British steel in every railway in Europe and a railway in every continent of the world they could replace Britain with Wales and it would still be right. Wales pumped a huge amount of wealth into the British economy at that time.
