Just remember that you can salary package a car with the WA Police, so if you are thinking of buying one when you arrive, just enquire about that first!

Hi folks, I am new to this forum. I am in the British Police and have just been given a firm offer of employment by Western Australia Police who will be sponsoring my visa allowing me to emigrate.
I will be based initially in Perth and then I will be looking at moving out to Broome or somewhere similar after two years. I am about to start the visa process which I have been told is much accelerated through WAPOL. Has anyone on here recently been through the process and does anyone have any tips or advice. |

Moving to Broome is something I fancied myself. WAPOL want new recruits to also spend at least 2 years away from the Metro area of Perth and get some experiance in the outback. Broome comes under this category at the moment.

Hi My husband has been offered a job in WAPOL and was told they would have to do 3 yrs in the outback which I fancy as quite a challenge. My kids are 5 & 6 so I would want to get it over with straight away especially as they apparently pay for your accommodation. I imagine it being in the middle of nowhere and me having to bake bread and tend to chickens etc as well as educate the kids. It all seems like fun but are there any neighbours at all in the outback to help. Does anyone know?

If you stay in Broome, rather than the resort or venture out in the town at night (which I wouldn't recommend) then you'd see the other side, basically loads of drunk aboriginals hassling you in the street, shouting, fighting, drinking as well as loads of dodgy looking white ZZ Top clones. There's loads of drugs too. When I stayed there we had to be locked in to our accommodation for our own safety at night and the locals would throw rocks at us over the walls. There were nightly bar room brawls in the pub. When my Mrs went a few years later she had her drink spiked with LSD. |
Re: Western Australia Perth
Maybe thats the best way to see Broome, through an acid like trance?
Ignoring the begging, the stealing, the fighting, the petty criminal acts ,the constant drunkeness in the streets etc etc. You know what Renth? i think they need more coppers there, thatll learn em! |

Its life Jim,but not as we know it,dont say we didnt warn you. It is quiet amazing that sucha rich country as australia has such depravation and social disorder that it has with its indigenous population, there lack of respect for law and order is well known and to be honest i can understand it as each generation is told by the last that the white man stole the land . They dont look at a cop the way a normal law abiding person does they honestly do not give a monkeys what you do to them and they dont give a monkeys what they do to you ,a cop in the kimberlies is just a glorified security guy . There is a story in the West Australian about a young cop in meekatharra and they give the young fella sucha floggin busting his eye socket etc plus assaulted his female collegue ,i reckon you have to be pretty tough to work in these outback towns when often you will be hours from any kind of reinforcements . I remember years ago there was a story going around where the cops had to get together with the elders of two aboriginal families who had been feuding for years and to try and stop tit for tat stabbings and beatings ,it was decided by the police and the two famileis to hire a football oval for the day and both families could have a good stouch once and for all ,this was watched by the cops who acted as the spectators and also to make sure knives and spears, clubs wernt involved . How true the story is i dont know but people who have been here for 20 years like me may have heard the story and to be honest sometimes these may well be the type of things the cops have to resort to to sort things out . |
