We're in Brisbane, we're looking for a house and we think we might want to go to SA
We've spent the last month travelling around Australia. We've seen Perth. Adelaide, Alice, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We were always planning to stop in Brisbane, get a house and find work. We didn't have any experience of Australia before we got here and so Brisbane seemed like a good option for many reasons:
When we got here we realised that there are no beaches, rental properties are quite limited - especially if you want a 3 bed with a pool in a nice area. It's a buyers market and I am sure that if we wanted to buy we could have our dream home but we want to make sure we're in the right place and rent.
We wanted to come to Australia because it has something that the UK doesn't. Cities with beaches and relaxation! Unfortunately for us we chose the only city without beaches! lol
We've checked out Manly, Manly West, Wynnum, Wakerley (that general area) over the last few days as most of you guys seem to think this is a good area. It is really beautiful, Manly West has some lovely houses and Wakerley has some new developments. The harbour is lovely and the village is a great place for a quiet drink. There's no beach though is there! lol
We're going to check out Redcliffe tommorrow as there are definately beaches there and the rental prices seem fine. (no pools still though!) lol
We really liked Adelaide when we stayed there. We only stayed there for a couple of days though and didn't explore the suburbs. Glenelg Beach being a short Tram ride from the CBD was brilliant though.
We're stuck! All our stuff is on its way to Brissie and we're not sure we're in the right place.
What's redcliffe like? Is it just a seaside town that goes dead out of season? Does anyone have any experience that might help us or advice? We'd be very grateful.
We've just watched the fireworks over the bridge and come into an internet cafe.
HELP! lol
- The beaches
- The cheaper rent
- The hot climate
- The vibrant city life

If you want beaches, why not go for Perth? It's got miles and miles of BEAUTIFUL beaches. Lots of sunshine all year round and a lot less humidity than Brisbane.
As for your stuff being on its way to Brisbane. I wouldn't worry about that. Once it arrives there, you can always tell the removal company that you want it sent on to wherever (obviously you'll have to pay for that, but it's not a major drama).

Thanks for the reassurance
Perth is lovely but alittle too quiet for us\. Plus the houses aren't cheap anymore property prices have gone up 48% lol!
I agree that it is very pretty there though.

Adelaide is just gorgeous, but if you work in industry you'll be relegated to the North and there aren't any beaches there either You can get a house with a pool for less $250kish though
The South of Adelaide is stunning, you'll get a good house there for not a lot of money with a pool probably.
Good luck whatever you decide

I entirely agree with Wendy ...I'm looking forward to going 'home' to Adelaide for maybe a week sometime this year...my brother lives in Sheidow Park, not too far from you Wendy ...I lived in Willunga.

Lived in Adelaide once, had to move to Melbourne to get a decent job before finally moving to Brisbane. Admittedly, it was 9 years ago. It would be interesting to see what people in Adelaide think about the work situation now.

Re: We're in Brisbane, we're looking for a house and we think we might want to go to
We'll justhave to drive up to Redcliffe tomorrow but if anyone can recommend suburbs in Adelaide / Brissie which might help us out that would be great.
Bare in mind that we want to rent first about (375 a week is our max) It seems that if you buy here you can get a lot more for your money but we're not ready to commit ourselves to a place until we've experienced it properly. We're wimps ! lol. So renting is the way for a bit.
We'll check back in a bit! Keep the advice coming. I need Coffee and a think...

I'd go north of Brisbane if beaches are important to you up the Sunshine Coast. Tewantin, Noosa etc or anything thereabouts. Obviously Noosa is joke expensive but the outlying areas aren't. But, its not a major city area.
But then again - your kinda asking for a major city, with a hot climate with beaches and affordable housing. If you manage to find that - you might just want to post it on here.
We'll all move there!!!
Oh - when your looking around to settle. The grass is always greener.....
