weren't they in the bris area to serve the bris area tho? he was against damming the mary river but wants to raise the borumba dam which would work. Nationals believe this is the way to go to.

Pete has gone on record plenty of times stating that the water crisis, as he calls it, is so severe that Brisbane will run out of water by 2010. His party has been in government for 8 yrs and done nothing to alleviate the problem of dwindling water resources & rapidly expanding population. Maybe he, like many, was relying upon the fact that rains will come eventually. They haven't yet though! so now his really clever idea is to build a very large very shallow dam that won't even be completed until 2011. A year after Brisbane runs out of water. The problem then is that the dam will take at least 2 yrs to fill providing we get average rainfalls, something that hasn't happened for over 7 yrs. So in reality the man elected to be head of state is going to build a huge white elephant of a dam that will lose up to 25% of it's capacity just be evaporation, that will remain as empty as the dams we have at present if there's no rain. All this while Brisbane taps run dry.
Is it not a far better idea to build a couple of large scale RO plants in Brisbane where the water is needed for a fraction of the cost of even the pipeline to transfer the water to Brisbane from Gympie?
