You jump in with both feet showing , I pay for both state and private , if the useless like yourself worked in Health care instead of leeching tax payers money we would have a better system.
Mr Packer and his kind pay little tax his tax bill last year was less than mine , so if we all paid in according to income the health care would be ten times better.

No you don't, even if you've got the most expensive health insurance you can get, (which I doubt) you still have to claim the medicare part of any bill as the private insurance only covers the GAP (oh just remembered you don't understand how it works do you even after I explained it in words of one syllable).

The fact remains you take out and give nothing to this useless country , try Nursing it needs people who care about Australia.
IT is a dead duck so try a job that gives something to people , you know little about the private system as you do not pay for it so please keep on subjects you have a little idea of .

Default health!!!

So exactly what can we deduce from this load of bollo...!!!!!
Worst case senario - I shall pay more for a similar service as in UK
Best case senario - slightly better service and care but you still pay.

So at the end of the day I probably wont be any worse off!! as I suspected all along.

You will pay for visits to the Doctor , Tests , Dentists( big Time) , Glasses and none Medicare covered health services which are many .
Some Medicines are not covered by Medicare so you they give you the option to pay full cost if you require them.
There is no let off for old , children or unemployed all pay at some level.

You keep whinging about taxes, then demand everyone gets free health care. Why should healthy people who keep themselves fit have to subsidise people with health problems? If you want a nice house you pay for it. If you want nice teeth you pay for it. This isn't communist Russia.

You whinge about everything. You say Aussies are lazy then say how bad it is that we have to pay for our own health care with our hard work. Make up your mind. Do you want a socialist country full of lazy people with no innovation who get everything handed to them by the state, or do you want a country where people are rewarded for hard work?

Christ, if Australia is so bad why are you still here? Seems a bit hypocritical to me. It's obvious even after reading your endless rants that you know Australia is a better place to live. If it isn't then you are displaying your foolishness by staying here. So, you're either a hypocrite or a moron.

The taxes get eaten away by hoards of goverment departments that have no place in this country or anyother .
Ask yourself why we have state and a Federal goverments to rule over such a small population , you post has the answer in it .

P.B.

Agree, but where in the world is perfect, these days, it seems if you want any kind of decent service you have to pay, my kids do not go to private school, but if I had the money they would probably go to one, I have just paid for treatment at the dentist, private, as I cannot find a good one who takes NHS patients locally and as for the local doctors he has too many patients on his list and if you want to see him you could easily wait one week for an appointment, when you are sick I would rather pay and get to see him there and then, I could choose to go to the A&E but last time I took my daughter we waited the whole day!!!!
As for lazy people, well they are everywhere in the world and so cannot really be avoided.
Personally, I'm going to Perth with an open mind about everything, it could well be that I dont like what I find, but on the other hand it might just suit us all, if I dont try I will never know, in any case I'm always up for an adventure, lets just hope me and mine dont get too sick!!!!!!

Three hours of chaos

A FEW nights ago I spent almost three hours in the Midland Hospital emergency department. Short of scenes on TV, I have never seen anything like what went on there.

There was a constant stream of people. I would have classed 20 per cent as emergency cases, but this is a free facility and anything free is popular.

I received kindness and concern from most of the people but with only one doctor, there wasn't much anyone could do. Many people jumped the queue.

I sat in a chair with a cup of water and watched mothers with children who seemed to not even know which part of their child needed attention.

When I could see that no order was to be made of this chaos, the attendant ordered me a taxi and I managed to get out of the place and to somewhere I could lie down.

My goodness, what has happened to our beautiful country?
EDITH CAMPBELL, Helena Valley.

Now where is it your going back to in the UK? Kinver I believe, near Kidderminster whose residents were up in arms about losing their A&E, and guess what, even after electing a MP who was independant and for keeping it, the A&E is know more, as it only deals with very minor ailments.

Thought I'd let you know what your letting yourself in for ole chap

Suz - I think you're right - worst case: waiting lists on Medicare can't be any worse than those on the NHS.

So it costs money for the gap payments in Oz plus you have to pay the whole cost for dentistry. Unlike the 'free' NHS PB is referring to.

PB is missing the point (you've been away too long mate) that the NHS isn't free here. National Insurance % has increased dramatically and there's no upper earnings limit when it's considered that you've paid enough anymore. Sure NI also covers some of welfare but it's several times the % the Medicare levy is.

You can take our private insurance to cover some of costs Medicare doesn't cover. Overall this will still cost less than NI. And you get a better service.

We've been self-employed with our own company so are both employer and employee... lately have had to pay NI as both...that's about 25% before you start on the company tax and income tax. Effective tax and NI rate about 60% from first £1 earned. Gave up working in the end and starting something else different in Oz. Maybe not plumbing but...

Yup - IT is a dead duck. All the decent work is being outsourced to India and now China. Noone else can compete.

Dear all

Where ever you go in life you will get good and bad. In people, the places you live, dinner out etc. I am sure although the bad experiences mentioned in Australia on this forum are true and maybe even common, in the UK we have them as well except things are getting much worse each year.

I have spent many a 6 hour shift or more in A.& E. with my kids waiting to be seen for an x-ray or what ever because of the staff shortages which are not the fault of the medical teams.

Yesterday it took me 4 & 1/2 hours to drive to Liverpool in a car from Bristol on the M5/M6 for a two hour meeting and 5 & 1/2 back. No accidents just sheer volume. Today 4 hours to Derby for a 1 hour meeting and 5 & 1/2 back. I got off the M42 to divert via the smaller roads because as usual the M42 was at a standstill. I went through some small towns and villages and Stratford Upon Avon and Stow on the Wold were gridlocked (these are just tiny places) and so I even had to circumnavigate them. The alternative (public transport) is totally unreliable, dirty and too expensive.

Violent crime is up by 22% from last year and following a University stint, kids are having to be bribed to leave home by their parents because with average house prices quoted at well over £100,000 (where you need a £20K deposit) and an £12,000 University loan debt behind them young people are unable to buy a home without big financial assistance (or bribes) from their parents if they are financially able.

Australia may have it's downside but sadly (because I used to love the U.K.) I am sure it can not be on a par with U.K. where we now have a once marvelous country in a state of perpetual spiral decline.

Anyone thinking of returning to the U.K. for good think very carefully!

Thanks for posting that PB. I've gained a lot of useful from this forum - and realise I can't dismiss the downsides that people post. However, it's often difficult to get a point of reference for the downsides people post (as they are often 'just' opinions).

But thankfully you occasionally post the kind of information you started this thread with, and I'm able to 'almost' compare like-for-like (Oz to England). Then I'm able to get perspective on how bad the downsides of living in Oz are.

So, 3 hours in the emergency department - so appalling it made the source of the article wonder what had happened to her beautiful country, and you thought it worthy of bringing the attention of this ng to it.

Suddenly, I'm don't seem quite so concerned about the other downsides you've posted.........

If only h garrett was exaggerating.....
