Do you have to have broadband for a webcam?

Not really but it would be incredibly slow, its not even worth it with dial-up.

Thanks for that. We're on dial-up at the moment but trying to get wireless broadband (we live in the sticks).

skype with a webcam only works in combination with broadband.

dial up as said is too slow for the high res nowadays.

You need a good upload as well as download speed to get a good frame rate. 128 upstream is about the basic if you don't want a long collection of static shots.
