Hi All

Me and my family are coming to brisbane at the begining of august, for a few weeks, we will also be travelling down to sydney, i was wondering if any one could give me advice on the climate, as we have never been there before.

We are not sure whether it will be hot or cold, so dont know what type of clothing to pack.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

It's probably the coldest time of the year. Daytime highs around 20C-22C, with temps falling sharply as soon as the sun goes down, usually down to about 10C, sometimes cooler. Expect it to be sunny though, although last August parts of SE Qld got a huge raindump.

You will feel cold at night so bring warm clothes.

No worries, just noticed you said Sydney as well, what I said above was for Brisbane, expect Sydney to be a few degrees cooler than that, and probably wetter too.

You won't need coats or anything too heavy- jumpers and lightweight jackets will be sufficient
Happy holidaying!!

Even in 20c temps over here, it seems quite cold. I live in Perth, not a bad day today, abit dull and really cold....17c. That would be quite warm for UK. I have 2 jumpers on. Going soft in my old age

Hi we had 10 days in Cairns (Port Douglas) last here, much, much warmer, same climate as Bangkok apparently. Warm in the day and again warm in the evening. Even the sea was still warm. Around 30 in the day and around 18-20 in the evening. Bit overcast some times but still hot.

Dont bother packing a jumper, maybe a small raincoat if you are going walking about.

We also had a week on the GoldCoast agree warm in the day, though once the sun went down, bit chilly.

Good luck, hope you enjoy it.

We were in Sydney last July and were damn cold. I know we've acclimatised but it was chilly. Evenings up here will be cold - well probably not for you but you definitely want a jumper or hoodie type thing. If we see any pasty people in the sea in August we know they're UK bods. It's way too cold for anyone else

If you are going to Brisbane you will definitely need a jumper.

Does that mean that when you have been out there for a while you turn soft, or just get used to the weather.

Having never been over there i was told to go visit sydney, but what is cairns like, as i need to keep two kids and a wife happy, ( difficult i know )

Thanks for all the advice

Hi. We stayed on the Gold Coast last August and went into Brisbane a few times.

The weather was quite warm, probably like a good June day here, though it was cold at night. We took cardigans and the kids had hoodies and we needed them. We only took shorty pyjamas and were bloody freezing so needed extra blankets and socks.

When we went to Sydney it was colder. Too cold for just a tshirt in the day and a coat was needed in the evening. It also pissed down. We did not take raincoats but would if we visited at that time of year again.

We did a Blue Mountains tour and all we could see was a wall of cloud!! Definitely give it a miss if its wet when you are there.

We went to Cairns for 4 nights and it was much warmer. Tshirts day and night.

I am sure that you will have a lovely trip (if you take some warm clothes and waterproofs)
