Hi
We've been in Brisbane for two whole weeks now and so far so good!
We absolutely love it (I know, its early days!) and are very happy.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered opinions and advice (good and bad) that made the whole thing easier.
First impressions:
Its a very clean city
People are really friendly and helpful
Cost of living isn't really any cheaper than UK in terms of food, clothes, drinks etc although rents are lower
There's loads to do - we've been to the theatre, cinema, out for lots of meals and there are loads of free rugby-related events at the moment, giant screens with all the games etc.
Its really easy to get around and public transport is fantastic
We've got loads of wildlife right on our doorstep (but no spiders or snakes, yet!)
TV is terrible
Weather is nice - lots of rain this past couple of weeks followed by lovely sunny spells
Loads to see a bit further out of Brisbane
If anyone has any Brisbane related questions I'll be happy to return the favour.
PS We had no trouble with Seven Seas shipping our stuff

Hi Rachels,
you make me dead jelous, I'm just popping out to down town Birmingham, now unless it's turned into a tropical paraise I'm not going to be happy!
Glad to hear that life is ok out there with lots to do.
Hope you are a rugby fan otherwise it could be hell.
Have a nice day in the sun.
Bye

Hi Rachels,
Glad its going well so far. Jim's a Jarrow lad and I'm a Northumbrian. We're in Berkshire just now but heading for Brisbane at the beginning of January. Have you decided where to live yet?

Hi Everyone!
Thanks for your nice comments.
I have to say its been a really positive experience for us. We are both so much more relaxed here. Having said that, Andy has started looking for a job so things might start to get more stressful over the next couple of weeks! If anyone wants the names of some recruiters over here, let me know.
We are living in Taringa until December ( I rented the apartment over the Internet for 3 months so we'd have somewhere to go on arrival). We are using the time to look around the city suburbs and we really like Paddington, West End and Fortitude Valley so far. Some of the suburbs (Taringa and Paddo included) are SO hilly you wouldn't believe it, its like looking down a ski jump! Since I'll be getting around on my bicycle I may have to take that into consideration!
I have to admit I'm a football fan (NUFC for my sins!) at heart but I'm starting to like rugby too. We've got tickets for the England v Uruguay game in Brisbane and I'm really looking forward to that.
We spent today just pottering, gave our resident giant lizard a drink this morning, went to "the valley" and bought some groovy clothes, had a coffee in the sunshine (its 26 degrees today) and then headed home. Just had a visit from the possum that lives in the tree in our garden - so, just a typical day really!
Sorry to hear you had trouble with Seven Seas Bondipom, either we were very lucky or you were very unlucky but 3 months late is ridiculous!
Take care everyone and keep your chins up, it'll be worth the wait!
