Water restrictions will now hit Farms
Just caught the tail end of the news headlines, (not the daily mail part the real bit) Victoria, NSW and part of QLD are said to be set to bring water restrictions/bans into farms, as in food
What sort of freaking mess is this country in, yeah lovely weather but if it hasnt rained for 7 weeks/months/years...............
Typically Supermarkets, well supermarket!!! , (woolworth also known as safeway is looking to buy out part of Coles) have already announced food prices will soar/double, oh really I hadnt noticed the $100 a week rise weve had already
Looking forward to the $8 loaf of bread, the $16 cauliflower, the $14 a kilo tomatoes, the $76 a kilo salmon portions, food prices at double todays rates if anyones wondering.
Wheres badger is back he requested a food thread update and theres me saying thats old news, badgerrrrrrrrrr

Re: Water restrictions will now hit Farms
They don't need to bring in water restrictions to the farming areas because there isn't any bloody water left there anyway!! Poor buggers have been paying water rates for water that is just not there. Farmers have been selling their depleted stock and walking off their land from months/years now, while the city folk continue to water their lush lawns and fill their backyard swimming pools. It is only when the price of milk, bread, meat and vegetables starts to rise that people take notice.
I think the Government could do a lot more to make people aware of how a drought actually effects everyone, not just the farmer who has toiled and struggled for generations to get food on our tables. If the farmer fails and walks form his land, then jobs are lost in all areas of the community, from the truck driver who collects his milk/produce/stock to the mechanic who services the truck - it has far reaching economic and social effects.

But don't forget the people who must take a shower 3 times a day because it's so hot, or can't live with a little dust on their loved car...

Unfortunately, as the vast majority of the population is in the cities, politicians don't seem to be that concerned with rural issues as they're not vote winners....

From what I can gather the latest is they want to turn off the irrigation systems to the farms that are still producing dont think they mean the inland stuff that dried up years ago this appears to be places like the fruit and veg belts that are still producing.
No doubt there will be more on this tomorrow, well unless something important happens in sport like a knee injury or something.
Heres a bit about it, looks like south australia is involved too. Its the irrigation under threat, thousands of farms involved in SA alone.

Nah its only food and water thats not going to affect anyone, well judging by the page 3 place the thread sunk too last night I guess food is a minor
issue and one should expect threads on such silly topics to be of no interest
Back in the real australia its slapped front page on most newspapers, johhny howards asking us to PRAY, lets hope he takes all religions in this one then. I see the shops are already profiteering, dropped in for some dog bones, gone up from $1.99 a kilo to $4.49 a kilo since last nights news this is total bollocks that is stuff they would otherwise throw out, anyway gave the butcher a small slice of my opinion on it and told him where he could stick his shin bone Pity ausssie consumers are not as vocal.

Shhhhhhhh the fish and veg etc brought in here (Qld) is priced up and sold as aussie goods, loads of stuff like beans, garlic is from china but you never see the country of origin displayed. Sometimes in the fish dept you see china vietnam etc but that was after some current affairs show was tipped off by local fisherman that stuff like ' aussie barrimundi' was something like old cod from vietnam despite the $30 a kilo price, similar thing happened with prawns.

They were debating this very topic on one of the brekkie programmes this morning. One of the presenters suggested that tourists to places like the Gold Coast should be charged extra for using water, because they don't understand the seversity of the drought nor stick to recommended water usage guidelines. Talk about grasping at straws ... Of course, they were all vehemently anti-importing anything. And were absolutely aghast at the phone poll - 80% of people had called to say that they weren't prepared to pay more to subsidise farming. Maybe because we pay through the nose already?

I wouldn't just worry about the water situation.
It will be the electricity that goes off before the drinking water runs. The majority of daily water is used by the power generating industry turning it into steam to drive electrical generating turbines!!
Roll on renewable energy plans......but if we wait for the federal and state government this is likely to go the same way as the water!!
