One way you might know if one was happening is if you notice all the lights in the house dim and stay that way - at this point its a good idea to unplug computers etc! If you leave the lights on you might then notice when they return to normal brightness again i.e. the brown out is over.

Sunshine coast has lots of water now, it rains heaps, as it should in a subtropical climate, but once we join the water grid the water will be shared with brisbane and all the same water restrictions will apply.

If all goes to plan that will be next year. Been loads of kerfuffle and uproar about "our" water being used by brisbane, but it will be, and I should imagine with a extra 3 million users it will deplete fairly quickly compared to the present 200,000 population

.....people need to think about what would happen to other areas of SE Qld if Brisbane were to run out of water. The economy of the the whole area would be decimated.....living on the Gold or Sunshine coasts wouldn't be too much fun if there were no jobs, whether they had water or not to water the garden.

Yup, top way to detect a brown-out ... leave all the lights on

Excellent idea

We'll leave the A/C in the Chicken Coop on and when they start complaining then we'll know to turn all the plasmas off except the big one.

That could possibly be construed as blackmail by some people We'll continue using all the water we want because we can and then we'll use yours and there's bugger all you can do if you want to keep your jobs

I'd just not heard that they were actually moving water between GC and Brisbane yet.

I know there are some pretty radical emergency measures being talked-about (e.g. requisitioning some private dams). And, obviously, the water grid thing is under construction to spread the stuff around.

Anyway, we are on tank-water and our tank doth overflow so it's all good ...

My view is that it's all a cycle within a cycle that we have scant chance of predicting, its a good thing to be mindful of how much resource we are using, don't get me wrong, but all this talk of moving to a 'disaster area' (how that post made me chuckle...) is just hysteria.

I'd be quite happy if no one else bothered moving here though so yes, it's a major disaster zone and people are advised to go elsewhere where there's plenty of water to be had.

Apparently we are in for plenty of rain over the next three months. It's raining here now.
