You can barter with Harvey Norman (Hardly Normal) too with significant purchases like that.

Top loaders use more water, don't clean the clothes so well, and aren't so gentle on clothes.

Frontloaders use less water (essential in these drought-stricken times), clean clothes better, and don't wreck clothes.

I can't understand why Australians are so attached to such old technology. Fear of the new, perhaps?

Go front loader and buy anywhere BUT The Good Guys, trust me on this if you have any complaints/issues after-sales ... or even during sales when your BLOODY order has been lost and they have debited your card ...

Now, vacuum cleaners ... there's a can of worms.

This is a very timely thread. Our washing machine has just packed up and I have been weighing up getting a new one vs getting the old one repaired. Has anyone ever had a Zanussi washing machine repaired in OZ ? I think the pump has gone (I am no expert believe me) as it won't drain, so I suspect it will need a new part. Is it worth it ?
As for the top vs front loader thing, we rented a top loader while our stuff was being shipped and I wouldn't have another one. I had several polo shirts end up ripped which has never happened with a front loader. Add in the difference in water consumption and I think a front loader is a no brainer. A lot more Aussies seem to be coming round to this way of thinking and there are plenty of good front loaders available.

I don't know anyone who's got one, but I'd be interested to hear - have to say I don't think my clothes wash as well in my Australian front loader as they did in the one I had in the UK.

How do you get the rebate for buying a front loader, and is it available in Vic?

He told me that top loaders use loads of water (??).

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks.
Front loader, no question.

Softer on clothes, superior wash, excellent water economy.

We got our front loader from the good guys in QLD and when you buy it from them they give you a form to fill out, When you get home fill the form out and send the docket in with it and keep looking at your bank account and hopefully you will get $200 put in some day, we were told it would take a while, its been about 1.5 months now and still no coin in the bank! Pete

The rebates are through the State water companies I think - here in Sydney it's Sydney Water for example. The shop you buy the machine from should be able to give you the forms to fill in, or you can contact the water company themself. Should think it's available in Victoria - do a google and that should give you a quick answer.
