The brickie just started on our house - 4x3 in Tapping (North Perth). He earns $1 a brick and reckons he lays around 1000 a day, he has approx 13000 bricks to lay, so that's $13,000 per house. Not a bad job. There's just him and his apprentice, and from what I have seen so far he's doing a lovely job.

Hi there

Did you get a company in to build your house - or are you just setting up different tradespeople yourself?? We might do that when we get over there. (I suppose we'll just have to see what happens).

I see there are quite a few on here thinking of doing the build themselves.

Just wondering if you guys have looked into things in detail, is it the same as here in the UK with the banks releasing at stages of the build even if your project managing on your own, or are they strict about where their money is being spent and mostly insist on a company taking on the build?

If any you guys have done the self build either way can you give us some feedback on the finance side of things
