I am pretty sure that he can apply. They have had people on the show before who are looking to buy a business when they get to Oz. No harm in applying

Re: Wanted Down Under
Hope I'm not boring anyone with this thread but just to let those who might be intersted know that we have been successful and will be going to Perth at the end of August to be filmed for a week. Initially it was supposed to be September but my employer would not give me time off, even as unpaid!
August doesn't look warm and we are expecting plenty of rain which I doubt will convince my wife that it's the correct move. Sorry but I ain't going to say who we are for now but for a suttle hint, the negative remarks after the show will mention an old git with a beautiful young lady (I'm the old git!!). My wife also has a few questions for those in Perth etc so please help if you can. Thanks again for all your help, advice and funny comments. |

Re: Wanted Down Under
Does that mean it is too late to send in an application? :(
|
Re: Wanted Down Under
No idea mate. I would send it in anyway. Sorry I can't give you any contact numbers etc but I've just received a letter of confidentiality etc.
Best of luck though |
Re: Wanted Down Under
Hi Sports endurance, have you filmed yet or are you about to leave for filming. I'm sure they will have filmed you in the UK by now. We have just finished our revisited and had a ball with the crew. Great guys and yes they do have a vision in their head before filming you just have to accept they will edit the way they want. Who's your crew?
Just enjoy it, use any spare opportunity you have to gleen info about the move the life and what you can expect etc Jane |
Re: Wanted Down Under
Well boys and girls we have just returned from our time Down Under with the BBC. Verdict is that some things were brill and most of the rest was even better!! We all had a great time but I wanted to inform any potential applicants that don't think of the experience as being a holiday - I promise you it definitely is not and be expected to work between 8.30 and 5.30 every day. I can't tell you much about what happened and what was said but we have made some very good friends and we did get a good idea of what to expect. I found:
food more expensive than UK, private health care almost as much as Council Tax and clothing both expensive, less varried and often of poor quality. I can't really say much about houses, jobs and general life style for obvious reasons. |
Re: Wanted Down Under
Can I ask if you did research before you went on houses, jobs etc as on the shows it appears that no participants do any? I am just wondering if it is the editing.

Re: Wanted Down Under
Yes, I did a great deal of research and I was not surprised at anything apart from what I saw at my potential work place - can't explain yet why but it was a pleasant surprise, in fact it was bloody amazing!
and yes I do believe it is the editing or even perhaps how people have been asked to respond (exageration!!). Remember you are often asked the same question a number of times and in different situations so they can choose how and what to present. We had a great film crew who obviously need to sell an interesting programme but also to a certain extent have your feelings and priorities at heart - hopefully!1 I think they may struggle for people applying for NZ as oppsed to Aus! I understand about 20 places are given out of 13000 applicants. |
Re: Wanted Down Under
Wow - how exciting - look forward to watching your antics!!!!
Hope you had a great experience ! |

Re: Wanted Down Under
Best of luck Paulandcilia and of course Jen who I've had lots of dialogue with. The WDU programmes, I understand, will start around January time. We will hear 2 weeks before ours is shown on TV but obviously we may not be the first family shown.
I must admit, this week the cold, windy, damp and general feeling around where I live feels bloody miserable. I've been in contacted with a few good pals in Perth and they appear to be much happier esp with the warmer weather and lighter evenings. BoL |

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
All 10am to 11am
Monday 4th January 2010 When the Hannah family from Glasgow test out life in Brisbane for a week, it is an emotional roller-coaster as they sample jobs and leisure. Will they decide to make the momentous move for good, or will the pressure divide the family? Tuesday 5th January 2010 The Roberts from Wigan sample life in Darwin for a week. Kiera Roberts is expecting her first child; she and husband Andy are hoping Australia will be a great place to bring up a young family, but have they underestimated the pull of family thousands of miles away back in the UK? Wednesday 6th January 2010 The Fosters from Derby test out life in Perth, Western Australia for a week. Husband Wayne wants to know how well they will be accepted as a mixed-race family, while Lois faces a momentous decision - if she moves to Australia for the sake of her younger children, it will mean leaving her fourteen-year-old daughter Amy in the UK. Thursday 7th January 2010 The Guiles from Berkshire test out life in Auckland for a week. Busy pub landlord Simon and wife Claire want to find out if New Zealand will enable them to give their daughters a better life. Simon wants to retrain as a wine-maker, but will he achieve the work-life balance his daughter Izzy longs for him to have? Ultimately, can they bring themselves to leave family and friends behind in the UK? Friday 8th January 2010 The Mills family from Eastbourne test out life in Australia for a week. Jem and Sally Mills run a successful psychotherapy business in Sussex, and want to see if they could do the same in the surfers' paradise of Byron Bay. Will the harsh employment realities, and the cost of living down under, put an end to their dream? Monday 11th January 2010 The Saunders family from South London experience life in Brisbane for a week. It doesn't go smoothly. The family try out camping in the bush, but it ends in tears. Robin Saunders is a specialist shoe-maker - he's been with the same company all his working life. When he samples a similar job in Queensland, his loyalties are torn. Tuesday 12th January 2010 Series in which British families are given the chance to sample life on the other side of the world. The Boyd family from Ayrshire try out life in Darwin. House-husband James has been trying to persuade wife Naomi to make the move to Australia to give their young children a better life. Finally she agrees, but when they get out there, he's in for a bumpy ride. Wednesday 13th January 2010 The Wilson family from Liverpool want more space and better weather to enjoy an outdoor life. They try out life in Perth, Western Australia, for a week. John Wilson finds a potential job as an artisan baker. But, the family hadn't bargained on the emotions they experience at the prospect of leaving friends and family back on in the UK. Thursday 14th January 2010 The Campbell's live near Falkirk with their three energetic children. They're fed up with the cold and rain of northern Britain, and want their family to flourish in the sun so they sample life in Cairns for a week. They love the heat and lifestyle of Northern Queensland, but elder daughter Kirsty doesn't want to leave her friends back in their Scottish village. She and her boys try out life in Auckland for a week. They get a glimpse of an optimistic future, but crossing the world to get away from the past isn't that easy. and at least another week on top, but with no details yet. |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
:thumbup:Thank you
The BBC website was quite poor for information when I looked. Hopefully some of the later programmes will be updates on previous years as they have been in the past. Always good to brighten up a dull and miserable January, even if it is a bit repetative |
Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
I think the revisited shows are on in the last week, i know the BBC was still editing and piecing them together last week

Re: Wanted Down Under 2010
Nice to see them branching out a bit and not focusing exlusively on the big cities.
