There is a good forum on whirlpool for voip providers. I use MNF , I just got mine sorted last week. Its ok - uses g.729 which is the low bandwidth protocol. I guess they're about the same as pennytel.

The whirlpool forums are best for support - lots of enthusiasts on there (or 11 yr old kids who know what they're doing - either way, it works)
+1 for the whirlpool forums, lots of really helpful folk on there...

I'd actually looked on there for the solution but couldnt find it.... probably didnt look as closely as you.

The other fault I get is .. I've got the combustion heater out here in the back room and the Room temp gets really hot and plays havoc with the modem... keeps on cutting out and changing it's connection speed. I know how to fix that though... with one of those Laptop coolers. How comes it always seems to happen when the Wife wants to use the phone.... she hates my Voip system LOL. Saves me a fortune, so I'm keeping it.

I use Engin, and $19.95 per month gives me:
  1. an extra telephone line
  2. All landline calls within Australia free of charge
  3. All calls to UK, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands and Spain all totally free of charge, together with another 13 countries at only 20 cents for each untimed call.

Yahoo,

Currently in the UK, on my return to the land of the kangaroo, i shall be having installed Naked Broadband, yep Broadband with nowt on, no phone line.

I want to bring my own modem aswell, so thought while here in the UK it will be cheaper to buy the best buy broadband modem which will work in Oz.

All you techo's, experts any suggestions with links of which is the best value for money option to buy while here in glorious warm wonderfull Blighty?

If you are going to compare prices take a look at ebuyer in the UK, they are usually pretty cheap. Its also true what the PP says that you won't have a warranty here, and will need to use an Aus phone adaptor (one of those huge cream coloured 3 pin ones).

Lastly if you're going Naked, its a good idea to get a modem that does VOIP, that way you can plug a phone into it and still use the line for phone calls, non-VOIP modems can't do that, without buying a special phone (exxy) or a separate box called an ATA (also not cheap).

Wish I was there for Monday's game!

Dick Smith is very good Buy it there, make sure it works exactly to your specs, then take it back when you have found one cheaper, within 14 days, and get a refund.
