Default Visa Validation

I've seen a lot of stuff on here about visa validation and I have searched the forum and cant find the answer I am looking for.

I'm assuming that you have a certain amount of time to 'validate' a visa. Lots of people make visa validation flights before they make their final move.

The question is - does everyone named on a visa need to go to OZ for validation? I'm kinda guessing the answer to this is yes, but as it's really just an admin exercise - it seems daft dragging the kids all that way only to come back again a few days later.

Some people have a lot less than a year to do so.

Really?
I thought it was standard. One year to validate from issue and then five years to move out following validation.
I assume from your comment that this differs for different classes of visa - can you elaborate ?

One year from when Police checks or medicals were sent, whichever was earlier so if you do them unrequested then don't get your visa for another 6 months then you only have 6 months left to validate.

I think.

I think.
When you get your visa stuck in your passport take a look at the "Initial Entry date" along with any other special conditions such as "No Entry before" XXXXX so if you're the main applicant anyone else on your application can't enter Australia until after you.

Sometimes people with medical problems get less than a year too. I think I have seen example of 6 months being quoted.

Just received e-mail notification of my Skilled Independant Visa being granted on 6 Oct 2005. My initial entry date is 8 February 2006 - just 4 months away. This took me by surprise and creates problems in that I have to get a family of 4 to Australia sometime over the busy period around Christmas and new Year. Has anyone else experienced such a short period for initial entry - is it worth querying? We were expecting to have about a year.

From responses on here in the past I don't think you will get anywhere with changing that date, unfortunately. Presumably you did either PCC's or meds early?

We got our PR at New Year 04 and had to validate by the end of March 04 cos that was 1 year on from the date of our police checks. Additional to this was trying to fit the validation trip into the kids easter hols and the fact that the missus was starting her nurse training on march 8th!
We checked online with SIA in early Jan and booked for 14th feb.

Our meds were sent off when requested , I think around March this year. Our PCC's were only sent in about a month ago as we had difficulty in getting them from South Africa. I'll have to check when the meds were sent, but I'm sure it wasn't 12 months before the given initial entry date.

Maybe they are rushing me as they think I'm getting too old!

Its not the date the meds are sent, its the date they are done. And if you have the Xray done several days before the meds, I think its that date they use.

That's why you've got an entry date of no later than March 06. If you had your meds done March time - then 12 months from then is March 06.

Hi Andrew
similar thing happen to us - although we had 2 months more that you
we were given 6 months non negotiable to validate the visa we were expecting
a year too.
if it makes you feel any better we were told the the visa would take at least a year to 18 months before it was processed it came through in 5 ! so in less
than a year we're moving to oz ! whirlwind
