Thumbs up Visa Timescale

Hi everyone, this is our first time at Ex-Pats.
Does anyone know how long it takes before being asked to go for a medical once the visa application is lodged? Is this the next stage or is there something in between? :scared:

Hi and welcome to British Expats

When we sent our application back in April our agent told us between 4 - 5 months before we would be allocate a case officer who would then request our medicals and police checks. It has now been 4 months and the way things are at the moment with the DIMA i can't see it being in the next month. But hopefully it will be back on track soon.

Unless DIMA want any more info Medicals and Police checks are the next stage.

Sorry i couldn't be much help,

Stacey xx

Hi. Welcome to BE.

I think we were very lucky as we got our visa quite quickly (think it may depend on your job).

We did not wait to be asked to go for our medicals. We booked them for around the 3 month mark after we lodged our Application. We then sent them and the police check off unrequested.

We then never found out we had a CO because they had all the info they needed and we went straight to visa grant.

I reckon this shaved off around a month as we got visa in 3 1/2 months.

Just beware that if you do this you are shortening your validation time and may end up having to spend loads of dosh to visit Oz before you are ready to make the move permanently.

Hi there

What a great question. I too am relatively new to BE and was scared to ask basic questions for fear of being told to just search for the information. We are using an agent, who quite frankly doesn't seem to tell us much. I've found much more relevant information on this site - thank you!

Our application was lodged on 2nd August after a successful and straightforward TRA assessment. We have applied on a 136 MODL (my husband is a roof slater and tiler). We have just received our police checks through as we knew we'd need them we did it without asking. Thought I'd better wait to be asked about the meds though. It's hard to know what to do and when. I believe this is just the awful "wait and see" period that everyone dreads.

Good luck to you meantime.

The visa processing timescales vary depending on the type of visa you have applied for and whether your job is or isn't on the MODL.

We applied for a 136 MODL and pre-booked our medicals unrequested at the 4 month mark, as that was roughly the time that medicals were asked for last year.

A good way to gauge timescales for your visa, is by checking progress of the people who applied a couple of months before you here: http://www.austimeline.com

Exclamation Re: Visa Timescale

I agree with Gina. We lodged our papers on 14 March 2006 and haven't yet been asked to send police checks or meds.
Another good site is www.gomatilda.co.uk for forums. Also for an update of what dates are being given case officers email to immi.gov.au no subject and they will give you all info. This information is updated every Tuesday. The date on Tuesday for 136 MODL's which is us was the 8th March 2006 so fingers crossed we should be next, so hopefully not long now!

Hope this helps and welcome to the waiting train. It's driving me nuts!!!!!

136 MODL too. Agent says 4-12 months (looking more at the 4 month stage) but I'll just have to wait and see.

I've heard that you get good at waiting in this game.

Wink Re: Visa Timescale

Hi and thanks to everyone who replied. Info was very useful. We've just sent our visa application to our agent who says it will be sent off tomorrow! It's now our turn to play the waiting game. They reckon it will probably take about 4 months and we're still unsure when we should go for our medicals (before requested to do so or not). Although we were very surprised when the TRA came back within 20 days!
Fingers crossed.
