Hope someone can give me some advice came back from Australia last March as sale of house fell through and have been kind of stuck as what to do as we can,t get on any flights and are not sure if we sell the house how long we may have to wait to get on flight as people are getting turned away a few days notice .Our 5year permanent residents visa expire soon and now their is no flights leaving uk

Ah the dreaded house sale - can you clear it out, lock it up and put it in the hands of agents or a special friend and get yourselves on a plane and be prepared to take much less than you think it might be worth in a different lifetime. Planes are arriving (check Qatar) but you will have to be prepared to pay first or business class then you'll have quarantine on top of that. You can apply for a RRV which, if you were in Australia for 2 of the last 5 years, should give you another 5 year visa.

Your 143 permanent resident visa won't expire. What expires in November 2021 is the 5 year travel part of the visa. As quoll says, if you don't want to/can't return to Australia before November 2021, you can apply for a Returning Resident (RRV) visa. If you've lived in Australia for at least 2 years in the last 5 years, you should be granted a 5 year RRV. That would mean that you can return to Australia any time within 5 years from November 2021.

Thanks for your advice just getting stressed out hopefully things will settle down soon and their will be some flights from uk

I don,t think we will have to much problem selling house it a problem if we book a flight and we keep getting put off flight we will find us needing to go into hotel which could be very expensive as have been in touch with people who have been put off flights numerous times also Emirates has stopped flights from Glasgow just now

Trying to sell a house is stressful in itself let alone all the covid-related stuff, so it's understandable that you're feeling stressed Rosie. Hopefully the knowledge that you're not going to lose your PR and that you can apply for a RRV will take the pressure off a bit.

There's no getting around the fact that it's difficult to get flights at the moment, and trying to tie that in with settlement on your house is even more difficult. Maybe give yourselves a bit of a break, take the house off the market and see how things are in 6 months?
