Vinyl in Australia
#1
Hiya everyone,
I just inherited my parents collection of vinyl (they're still with us- just doing a loft clearance). Anyway, I've coveted this collection my entire life and I want to bring it with me when we move. Can anyone tell me if they have any experiences of moving their vinyl to Australia, has it had any detrimental effects, would you recommend anything to make it easier to move or better cared for when it gets over there? I'll be bringing them in proper vinyl boxes but I want to see if there's anything I should invest in before we leave.
Any contributions are welcome

Lots of it around here. In fact there are quite a few shops dedicated to selling Vinyl only records in Brunswick, Northcote and Richmond. Not sure how they go about keeping it. I think you'll find yourself with either a lucrative investment, or amongst fellow aficionados
What equipment do you use to play yours. How do you rate the Chinese amps, which seems to be the only place that maintained valve production during the solid state uptake by consumers around the world.
If your really concerned about how to store them, give these people a ring...

Had no problem with bringing ours over, even after reading comments about how the heat of the container as it crossed the equator would bend and melt them
They were just in normal crates so if you have your in purpose made boxes they'll be fine.l

We shipped our vinyl with no ill effects. We packed them into record boxes very tightly (to avoid warping) and the removers then wrapped the record boxes with lots of layers of bubble wrap to insulate them from extremes of hot and cold, then they were all packed in one box which was marked to go in the centre of the container. They arrived in perfect condition.
Good luck

Keep them flat and as cool as possible to avoid warping from the heat. Same applies wherever you keep them when you get to Australia.

Of course when you come to the Southern Hemisphere you will have to get a turntable that rotates in the oposite direction, anticlockwise, or is it clockwise ? Same as water down the plug-hole anyway.

I also shipped a couple of crates over, just in wooden boxes from Ikea wrapped in a lot of bubble wrap. Had no problem
