Default a very hard decision

I have come to a very hard decision i am going to sell my beloved car. Its not the cost to transport it but the tax and the hefty insurance (apparently they add 70% for imports).
I bought my car with money that i inherited from my dear uncle so it means alot to me and I love it, it is a 02 Golf GTTDI 150bhp with leather heated seats cruise control winter pack (LOL) climate control and a sunroof and i love it but it will cost us £1800 in the container and then a further $3000 dollers in tax plus rego and insurance.
I have been in tears I know its only a car but i will never have one like it again.
I feel so sad. Things are really hitting home at the moment.

sold mine to fund agents , can't take it with me so may aswell get rid . i sold it early on and now i run around in a piece of cack Alfa . its tough cuz i love my cars , had around 30 in my time from Morris Marinas to Porsches

it for the greater good i tell myself .

the money will be well spent & and the end of the day the car will be worth sentimental value only . the help the money will give will live on

If it means that much to you why not bring it? With the quote you give it would cost in total about $7-7.5k and as second hand cars are more expensive over here you will probably spend that on replacing it on this side. Just a thought

I feel your pain Just had to let our Audi A6 go to a new home. Brought it as an ex demo car (though it still had a hefty price tag!) as it was supposed to last us for years. Leather seats, sat nav, alloys air con etc. Now have a N reg Astra to keep us going until next year if it manages to last out. With 142,000 miles on the clock I am not holding out much hope

Am going to add my tuppence .. we have a Nissan Patrol 4 x 4 and I love it.. it works as a people carrier (very handy as don't have to take 2 cars everywhere), a van/pickup and an off roader, and a touring car when we are camping or going far..

trouble is that it is just too expensive and tiresome to transport it over

Gonna miss my car! (bit naff of me, I know, but hey ho!)

Thanks for all your replys.
I do want a little boat when we get over so I just think of that and know we will have loads of fun.
