Pics from validation trip to Melbourne

Just been to Melbourne to stay with my cousin (in Sunbury) and her family for 2 weeks to validate our visas.
Did the usual, Hanging Rock (41 degrees!), Sovereign Hill, GOR, Mornington Peninsular, Botanic Gardens, Healesville etc.

We did quite a lot of driving in and around Melbourne and noticed that there seemed to be very few properties with any decent sized plots.

Loved the small towns in the middle of nowhere on the way back inland from the GOR, liked the small towns on the Mornington Peninsular like Rye etc, Lorne was nice but as we are planning to go to Brisbane it wasn't particularly relevant to us.

Most Aussies seemed friendly, cousin and her fella are Scottish and seemed to us to be the typical winging poms although to be fair, they're out there living it and we're not so who knows how we'll feel when we get there.

Have loads of pics if anyone is interested.

Andy.

The Stokehouse - on the esplanade in St Kilda. Fantastic views, watch the sunset over the bay, and a very, very good wine list (not to mention great food).

Favourite breakfast - the Fitz Cafe on Brunswick St, Fitzroy - great coffee and pancakes and fresh fruit a MUST! Also Atomica on Brunswick St.

Great steaks - Charcoal Grill on the Hill - in Kew. Another place with a great wine list. (THis was my suburb and this restaurant has won a lot of awards)

Vegetarian - Soul Mama - in the St Kilda Sea Baths - best veggie restaurant I have been to anywhere. And more fabulous views over the bay

A good place to start is to buy a copy of The Age - Good Food Guide. Comprehensive guide to dining in Melbourne; search out restaurants by cuisine, suburb, etc.

Pic taken at local "Reserve".

Houses near lake are about $3-400,000, new houses on the hill opposite are apparently $5-600,000
