Default Validation Question

When you get a visa do you need to go to Oz to validate the visa first and then leave the country to come back again - or can you validate when you come to stay?

You validate your visa by entering the country - whether you choose to stay or leave again is up to you. Theres no need for a separate "validation trip", if you want to arrive and stay, thats fine (and cheaper!!)

If you plan to make the move before the 'first entry date' then there's usually no specific need to validate with a holiday, you simply migrate and that's that.

Don't leave validation until the last minute.

Hi Jeremy,

Just wondering what you think of as the last minute? And why? (As hubbie and I are planning to land about a week before our first entry date.)

Cheers,
GG

If your plans are such that they could be derailed by illness, accident, strikes, bad weather, flight delays etc - that's 'last minute'

DIMIA won't care if you arrive at the last minute, but the problems arise when people find they cannot do this due to an unforeseeen delay.

Thanks for that - was kinda my guess, but wondered whether there was something we'd completely overlooked! It's always going to be difficult trying to plan the move. In our case, it's a balance of leaving it as late as possible so we can stay at work and earn more to support our new life, and leaving enough time to cover any emergencies that might arise.

Thanks for your clarification.
