Default valid passport?

Hi, we are going out in May (next year) on a student visa, unless we can find a sponsor first!

However we're unsure about how long we will need left on our passports. Mine and hubby's runs out in the next couple of years so if we have to come back after the student visa how long do we need left on our UK passports????

Any normal tourist visa will not be stamped in a passport with less than 6 months on it.

Normally immigration departing and arrivals don't like it if you have less than 2 months left (incase you have an accident or are incapacitated for any period of time and will be left without a valid passport).

If your passport was about to expire with valid visas in it then you could get it renewed wherever you are and carry the old one with visa in and the new one together as a stop gap measure.
