Urgently Need Burns Medical Advise Pls
I am wondering if there are any nurses or doctors out there that can give me some advice pls.
Hubby has had an accident at work. Horrific refrigerant gas burns and frostbite to his fingers and hands.
He has seen burns unit in Perth. They popped all his blisters - is that correct cos on all websites I have read it says DO NOT pop blisters.
The wounds are down to his flesh - (made me feel sick!!)
He has to go back and see doctor on Thursday - border line with thumb as looked quite white
Any help in this subject would be appreciated as I have been reading some horror stories on web so am quite aware of what could happen.
Not so good a start to a new life here in Aus - only been here 4 months
Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen sorry I'm not trained to give you the expert advice you need but just wanted to say my thoughts are with you and your hubby and wish him all the best in his recovery. Hang in there.

Hi Helen,
so sorry to hear about your hubbys terrible accident.
I am not a burns and plastics nurse, but i work in critical care and recently looked after a man with severe blisters on his legs (he got it from chemotherapy). the dermatologist instructed me to pop them. the reason for this is that they can be dressed aseptically whereas if you leave them to pop themselves they may become infected.
Hope this reassures you in some way. Hope your hubby makes a quick recovery.
Take care,

i work in theatres so not a specialist but i would say the same as jackie dressed small unpopped blisters give a nice warm moist environment for infection in a dressing if they burst themselves. its bit different for major burns with the shock from temperature and fluid loss. as its a cold burn you will get white areas as the tissue has probably been very damaged. id be more worried about black areas or necrotic tissue.

Hi Helen
I too am not a nurse but when my son burnt his hands quite badly they ripped off all the skin covered nearly an entire palm of a hand {9 month old} I was mortified.
Since that time a few years ago thinking has changed they just pop blisters now much better for them I believe.
Best wishes
