A couple I know have landed in Perth-have jobs but having NO LUCK with rentals
They are lovely people,non smokers,have no pets,& need to be near a primary school for 2 children.They are getting so desperate they are thinking of throwing the towel in .please pm if you can help.

We are renting through them in Merriwa (not the best area I know but the house we are in is in the newer area, just off the new Connolly Drive extension and so far so good). They would have the option of the local primary school or if they have transport the 2 schools in Butler. We are renting a brand new 4 x 2 for $265. I know there are a few that she has available in the same area. Good luck.

Have they tried looking at the website www.reiwa.com.au This has most of the rentals available in Perth. We have just put our house on the market in Carine which is just round the corner from great schools but if we don't sell it by Dec we will be renting it out for at least a year.

They have to act VERY fast when they see a property. Get them to have references in place, all photo copied and ready to go. Also photo copies of passport, marriage certificates and visa's etc etc.
Get the application forms from the various rental agents and pre fill them is (as much as possible).
They may have to put one weeks rent "CASH" in with the application to show they are serious and not putting in multiple applications. If not succesful, they'll get the money back.
They should dress up smart and go meet the property managers and show them that they are a good choice for one of their properties.

We totally understand how they are feeling as we went through the same, but we did all the above and now have a lovely house in Hillarys..... can't afford it (just kidding), but that's another story. :-)

What do the references have to say & who from? May be in this positition soon?

We were house sitting for the 1st 8 months and had a fantastic reference for the home owners.
If you have never rented before (we hadn't) I'd suggest some sort of character reference, maybe from your mortgage lender, just to show that you have never defaulted and always paid on time. My point is, someone with 'glowing' references will be a faster choice to put into a property.

Also, you will need to have the phone numbers of a few people the rental agent can call to verify your character. I used my manager and two close friends here in Oz.
