Question Unfurnished rentals...what would one need to buy as a basic minimum?

Hi,

We never really rented unfurnished. In the past we rented furnished and now we have our own house in Europe.

So the question is....when they say unfurnished (Brisbane mainly), what are the basic things that need to be bought?

1. Beds + mattresses?
2. Bed linen, spreads, towels and similar stuff I guess.
3. Kitchen chairs and table??? Cutlery and kitchen appliances?
4. Sofa and living room furniture?
5. Other?

Thanks!

Bed, mattress and bedding/pillows/duvet etc.
Chest of drawers
Sofa
Table and chairs probably and outside setting too.
Something to put your TV on and a TV!
Fridge freezer
Washing machine
Tumble dryer
Pots and pans
Plates
Cuttlery
Oven dishes/trays
Utensils such as potato peeler, can opener, wooden spoons, collander
Storage containers/tupperware - good for keeping ants away
Plates, bowls
Mugs
Glasses
Toaster - unless you have a grill
Kettle
Towels
T-towels

There are loads and loads of other little things that soon mount up but that is off the top of my head.

Ikea is a great place to start.

Some unfurnished rentals have a washer and dryer - but not all - it's a bit hit and miss so don't buy til you see the place.

Unfurnished usually means the only thing provided is a cooker - if anything else (dishwasher, wardrobes) is built-in then you get those as well, but everything else you supply yourself. Sometimes you don't even get the light bulbs! Also check whether curtains/blinds are included.

That just about covers it, that shorter list "one item" of what IS included is much easier to work with

Yes, it's always best to take the worst case scenario

We won't be shipping everything since we will rent our place furnished here....

I think we will first buy the absolute essentials and then add the other things slowly. Have checked the prices, they are not that bad, well, depending of what you buy obviously.

These big shops, IKEA, Good Guys, Fantastic Furniture etc.....do they do free delivery???

Cheers

The Trading Post or EBAY will save you heaps of cash especially on lounge suites.

Not normally. I suppose as most Australians are expected to have a UTE, they don't worry about things like that
