Well no, they are not. Couples are treated as couples.

Certainly in practice, if I lost my job as a married woman, it would not be half as bad a situation to be in as if I lost my job as a single woman. Benefit entitlements reflect this.

Not really, as you can be single and still be living with someone. You'd have exactly the same costs as a married couple.

If you are a couple married or defacto, then you are treated as a couple when it comes to welfare benefits. Whether you think this should be the case or not is irrelevant.

Agree that the accounting job market is pretty tight out there at the mo!! I'm not looking, but plenty folks in Melbourne are telling me the same thing..

Have you considered Brisbane?

It's one of my seek.com daily alerts & there seems to be quite a lot of varied accounting work coming on up there? Could just be made up agencies ads but might be worth a look....?

I think we have to go where there are jobs. After GFC, a lot of things have changed. There are much lesser jobs and more people wanting to work or unable to find work. IMHO.

Not sure what you posted - it's not appearing as a link - nor does it work if you copy and paste into the browser

I'm using IE and it's a bit scrambled - the page tries to load but has no real info.

One of the things that can be annoying with recruitment sites is that what seems like lots of jobs can be the same one being advertised by multiple agencies.

IE is hopeless, lots of web pages don't load with properly with it. Maybe give Google Chrome or Firefox a try? A good thing with Chrome is you can use an ad blocker and Hola (a free VPN) with it.

I agree about the recruiting sites. Lots of duplicates and phoney jobs on them

I actually do not seem to get ads using IE. Think the only place I see them is FB. I don't have an ad blocker but do use 'do not track' which may be helping. Either way I'm not complaining

Do have Chrome downloaded as there are issues with BE when using IE - don't really like it though. Guess I'm a creature of habit when it comes to IE

Silver Cloud....I am not sure if you have mention how your wife and children feel about another move perhaps that will help. Its really doesnt matter if you have family or not in the UK its how you feel about the country and how you feel about the place you live. Would you get more help in the UK with unemployment than were you are. I think you need to do a pro's and con's on both sides of this issue. With children there comes a point when its not easy to keep moving them around. But if you are going to lose everything it matters how comfortable you feel in another country. I wish you the best but at your age you are a chicken and can start again and still make a success of your life.
