Default UK telephones and modem

This may be a really silly question, but do UK telephones work in Australia, do they just plug into the phone socket as they do here?

Also, when we set up broadband in Australia will we just use the same modem that we use in the UK?

I have tried doing a search on here but no luck.

So long as it has an RJ11 plug you will be ok. If it has a BT plug, if needs to be changed to an RJ11 - look at the end of the lead plugging in to the phone unit, they are usually RJ11 at that end, so remove it and get an RJ11-RJ11 lead (same as your ADSL lead).
Some houses in Aus have a 600 series plug but you can buy adaptors to RJ11 easily.

Broadband modems "should" work if they are not operator specific and you know how (and the box alllows you to) to login to the box to change the settings. The DSL settings are different here so you need to know how to configure it to your ISP here in Aus. Its not plug and play.

Remember the power leads are all UK plugs so you need to change them or get adaptors.
