Uk rental income & tax question
Ok so I'm in australia as a permanent resident.
I have a 2 properties in the uk. One with a mortgage one without. They earn me 1200 pounds rent a month with the mortgage repayments being 900 pounds (NOT interest only)
I completed a form for the rental management company to not deduct tax.
When filling out a tax return here what do I state my uk income is. how do i know what the conversion rate is and can I claim for anything back. Expenses such as new appliances i needed to buy for the house.
Do I need to fill out a tax return in the uk. Can I do this online and surely I don't have to pay tax in both countries.
Sorry to ask questions already covered but did a search and got more confused
Thanks guys

Re: Uk rental income & tax question
Hello T C.
Answers to the questions relating to your Aus tax return are on the ATO website: www.ato.gov.au. A good tax accountant will also have the answers.
You can also expect to be required to complete a UK tax return under the UK's Self Assessment requirements:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/need-tax-return.htm#1
See also:

and
http://www.gmtax.com.au/faqs/
and
http://www.gmtax.com.au/contact/
Remember that if you decide to lodge a UK tax return on paper (rather than electronically) you have until 31/10 to submit it to HMRC.
Similarly, if you want to engage a tax agent in Australia to assist with the preparation and submission of your 2012 Aus tax return you should appoint the agent by the end of this month so the agent can include you on his/her tax agent lodgment program before the deadline for unrepresented taxpayers to submit their Aus tax return.
Best regards.
