UK Qualifications for IT skills Assessment
Can anyone help answer some queries.
My Partner & I are looking to move to Oz and are trying to decide who should apply for the Skills Assessment but can't find any information on how UK qualifications match to Australian ones. Can anybody help with the following:
BSc (Hons)
BSc (not hons)
MCSE
MSc
The problem is that I have the MSc in IT but although I work within the IT department I am a Project Office Coordinator. My Partner has the MCSE (and BSc without Honours) but works within the network and server environment so is a lot more IT based than me.
Since we are both 32 with no family in Australia we would nbeed a 60 point skills assessment to get the 115 points.
Thanks
Anne

The ideal scenario is to have a degree + linked occupation i.e. If you have an IT degree and can demonstrate that you work in IT.
If you don't work in the same field as your degree then your degree is failry useless as far as the skills assessment goes.
I have a degree in chemical engineering and a masters in business administration and the ACS said that they were both equivalent to an MSC in IT based on the course content (you send the modules and your scores when you apply fpr them to look at).
The key thing in your case is probably the number of years experience you have in IT. I think because I didn't have an IT degree I had to have 7 years experience - which I have (just).
I know it's more expensive but you could always get both your skills assessed and see who wins.

Re: UK Qualifications for IT skills Assessment
Hi There!
Sounds like your partner will be the main points winner as he has strong experence in his field of work. Also, he should have been in his specified role (as this is also part of the assesment) 18-24 months before he applies.
I applied under a 60 pointer (Analyst programmer 2231-17) and included my BSc (hons) degree-Information Systems to the Australian Computer Society(ACS) along with my 5 years work expereience at my previous employer and I got back a positive skills assessment.
I guess the degree is the most important thing with or without the Honours bit should not matter. But remember he should also send the certified copies of the MSCE aswell to include in the skills assesment, as this further certifies that your partner is qualified in his field of work along with the work references.
Hope this helps - Best wishes with your application.

Anne,
Your partner would appear the way to go. With an MCSE and I think 4 years experience (I could be corrected on this ) he would qualify in Group B.

You should be able to get more info from http://www.acs.org.au
If both of you have positive ACS assessments, this will count as max points and spouse points in your application.
