UK passport is not an official document according to Australian passport office!!
Cant believe it - trying to apply for an australian passport after getting my citizenship last week.
All ok until i get to proof of identity section.. I dont have a drivers licence (cant drive due to medical condition)so had to provide another form of photographic identification.
They won't accept a current UK passport! Its not an acceptable official photographic identity document apparently. WTF?? It's acceptable to get into the country and to get PR and citizenship but not recognised by the passport office.
However if i had a work photo ID card that would be acceptable.. surely a hell of a lot easier to forge one of those i would think...
Is it just me or is that just bizarre?

It's just you. Read the rules. Identity documents
Your foreign passport is a perfectly acceptable Category B document. A work photo ID is sufficient in addition to two Category B documents, but could not replace a Category B document in the event you did have a Driver's Licence as your Category A document.
Stop whinging.

A uk passport is not a 'perfectly acceptable document' as a photographic ID document. Its not recognised as an official document.
I dont have a work ID or a drivers licence.

I appreciate it's a PITA but why not get yourself a 'Proof of Age' card - is identical as ID to a Driver's Licence but doesn't allow you to drive.
My neighbour (aged 81) has one - as she also can't drive due to a medical issue and uses it as ID for registered post, joining clubs, opening bank accounts etc. It's pretty useful.
I know they are used widely in Queensland but have no info for other States.
Edited to add, I have no idea what ID you could use to get the 'Proof of Age' card in the first place if they don't accept UK passport....

Why not join a gun club? Apparently that's valid photo ID and would also make you a bit of a winner.
