Hubbies Birthday soon and was gonna buy him a blackberry. Just wondered if we could take it to Oz and an Oz sim card would work in it if we get in unlocked? Any idea?

Not to worry, it will. Get it unlocked before you go and test with the sim card from another provider in the uk just to make sure. Also read a contract, if you are on one, so that you avoid exit fees and such when leaving the uk for good.

Would it not be best to wait until you get there? As it'll probably come with a UK warranty, and if it goes wrong in Oz, you may be stuck.
