We recently had a Council By Election that was scary....

"Primrose By-Election Result
25 Feb 2010

Labour candidate Ken Stephenson has been elected to represent the Primrose ward on South Tyneside Council.

The ward's 6,307 electors went to the polls today (Thursday 25th February) in a by-election following the sudden death of Labour Councillor Barrie Scorer in December.

The results are as follows:

Ken Stephenson (Labour) 854
Pete Hodgkinson (British National Party) 566
Aaron Luke (Independent) 213
David Alan Rice (Independent) 174
Anthony James Lanaghan (Conservative) 124
Susan Heather Troupe (Liberal Democrat) 100

The turnout for this election was 32.25% and Labour win with a 288 majority"

Hope this is not an indication of things to come.

I'm getting some interesting points via my London board.....

Labour win by 10 pct = 150 seats + majority
Tories win by 10 pct = hung parliament

Gordon Brown smear campaign probably now working in his favour, as its obviously a campaign.

Lord Ashcroft and his Ilk not paying UK Tax.

Just points being debated in London re the election.

Eh - the bloke who's overseen all that prosperity which benefitted so many people up until recently? I don't get it. Sure the govt is tired - so go to the election..

The prosperity was created by living above our means. Gordon raided the pension funds, sold gold at a ridiculously low rate. Borrowed money when the country didn't need it, and failed to regulate the Finance sector, which was the biggest single factor in our current problems.

I could remortgage my house and buy a sports car, a boat, designer clothes and some nice overseas holidays. Would that make me prosperous?

No, it would make me heavily in debt.

That's what Gordon Brown's "prosperity" was all about.

He should be on trial for treason, not leading the country into an election.

It's increasingly looking like we'll be in the Brown stuff come election day:

I would think that any thinking members of the Labour party (oxymoron?) hope to hell that Cameron gets a majority, so that they can spend the next few years saying how badly they are running the country. The legacy of Brown's chancellorship and then PMship is going to be horrible and it's always the party in power that gets the blame.

Yeah it's very much a poisoned chalice but with another term of Labour in office it'll still be poisoned in four years from now.

I read today that Brown is looking at putting VAT on food, and lifting the rate from 17.5% to 20%.

That might affect his chances…..

Maybe its deliberate.

(It seems that this election is the one no one WANTS to win. Handing over the wheel of a sinking ship.)
