Default UK DVD Player - region issue??

Hi,

Any DVD experts out there? Just hired a DVD from local store in Sydney and it will not play....says something about not be able to play in my region???

I bought Panasonic DVD with us from UK, and did not have any problems playing a DVD last week.

Any help would be greatly welcomed. Getting a bit tired of all the technology stuff now....took 1 hour today to get my printer reset to Australian region!

Thanks James

Maybe last weeks was a multi-region DVD, and this weeks is Region 4 - which won't play on a UK machine unless yours is multi-region.

Google the make & model number of your dvd player for a code to unlock it. We had the same problem & were advised to get a code to unlock it. Took us about 10 minutes on the interweb to get the code, then about 2 minutes to type it in. Not sure if it's entirely the correct thing to do but it worked for us.

We have just started playing dvds through our laptop (connected to the big tv screen and used the ipod speakers to make the sound better) - although that unlocking with a code looks a bit easier!

Unlocking via a code is normally your best bet, very easy to do, simple code that is entered via the remote. Unfortunately you have a Panasonic DVD player so it's not so easy, with luck you might get away with some firmware burnt on to a cd.

The forum below will be useful to you.

We had a DVD sent to UK from Aus, which wouldn't play. Hubby got the code off internet and voila, we are now multiregional and can play all DVD's.

Apparently most DVD players are multiregional, but the set them up for each individual country - so just get on the internet and your problem will soon be solved.

Good luck.

Hi James,

I unlocked our Panasonic DVD (DMR-E55) a few days ago, by following the "Generic Panasonic region free IR code" instructions at http://www.dcevolution.net/panasonic...d=32&Itemid=54.

Although our model number wasn't listed, the hack worked fine and we can now play Region 4 DVDs as well as Region 2. I used the PocketPC method to send the codes.

Cheers,
Dave
